Guest muddy Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Hey Fellas; Does any one make a rattle trap type lure with out any rattles in it? Quote
Fish Man Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 im no tackle enthusiest but ive never heard of one, im sure T Rig will enlighten us, sure he has one layin around somewere lol. but i personally thought that the rattles were one of the main "attractants" of a lipless crank, not much else i can think of except the profile to attract them. :-/ Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 I have a few. But I made them that way. First I took and xray of them to see the best place to drill a hole. After drilling the hole I filled the inside with glue and hung it at the same angle that it swims so the weights would settle in the right places. After the glue dried I sanded the hole and that was it. I quiet trap. And it catches fish. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Air Viper Risebacker in the "Sound-Less" model - - - one of my absolute favorite vibes in life: Also, the Shimano Silent Undulator - - very cool action! Ever Green also makes the Buzzer Beater in a silent model - - if you like the Aruku Shad, you'll probably also really dig the Buzzer Beater. Also......Jackall makes a silent model in their TN series. I have one of the TN/70's in rattling version and I really dig it, so the silent is probably killer as well. (it's the chart. shad bait up top) Quote

Hey Flukey for those of us with out a handy dandy x ray machine; are the rattles usually in a certain area, where is it safe to drill? And does removing the rattles change the way the lure runs? Guest muddy Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 HOW BOUT SOME THAT DON'T COST MORE THAN LET'S SAY 5 BUCKS! Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 I don't remove the rattles because I still want the weight and I still want it to run true. I just glue them inside. On Rat-L-Traps I drill 1/4 inch behind the front hook. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 HOW BOUT SOME THAT DON'T COST MORE THAN LET'S SAY 5 BUCKS! Sorry....my best guess is, a Cordell Super Spot, a drill bit, and a bit of epoxy. I'll probably try it myself sometime - - - Spots rock! As far as how it effects the action - - I have the risebackers in silent, low sound, and high sound. The more rattles they put in the bait, the faster it sinks, and the less "lively" the bait is.....one reason I really like the silent baits in certain conditions...the slower fall rate and responsive action. Super User Jimzee Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 Here's another one Muddy that I like a lot. Jackall Mask Vib 70 Sunfish color Quote
Super User T-rig Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 HOW BOUT SOME THAT DON'T COST MORE THAN LET'S SAY 5 BUCKS! This one is probably as cheap as you'll find: http://www.***.com/descpageHDLYOZURI-YLBSV.html My favorite is the Megabass Vibration X Silent. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 FWIW, I've gotten several Air Vipers for as little as $5 on eBay. I'm guessing Cordell and Bill Lewis just don't think there's a market for silent lipless cranks........now where's my drill bit, I think I'm going to do some surgery on a few Spots. Quote
surfer Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 You guys just reminded me of one of my bonehead maneuvers. Drill out the rattles, glue it shut, and then realize without the rattle weight... it floats. Thanks for all the options. I would rather spend the $5 extra than another hour in the garage. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 Lucky Craft LV-300S. http://www.luckycraft.com/luckycrafthome/Products/crankbait/lv300s.htm 8-) Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 I'm really not understanding why a rattling lipless crank costs less than a non rattling. I would think that it is not more complicated to manufacture or massproduce. Seems like a rip to me. I'm going to go with fluke's surgical operation and try it out. I just can't bring myself to pay over a few bucks for a lipless crankbait. Make sure the glue is water proof. lol I use the two part epoxy that is used for wrapping rods. Quote
Cburgerjr35 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 The old Cotton Cordell "Th' Hot Spot" - doesn't have a rattle...At least mine doesn't...It's never been wet.....It's still in it's origial box....I've been told ,it's from the '50's.. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 Hey Fellas; Does any one make a rattle trap type lure with out any rattles in it? None than I can remember right now for present days in the domestic market, back then during the age of the dinosaurs when we had to dodge t-rexes and velociraptors in order to go to the lake and ketch some coelacants there were several rattleless lipless cranks, I 've got many of the old days: Sonics, Bayou Boogies, Cordell Spots. In the Japanese market there are several manufacturers of silent liplesss cranks. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Yo stringjam. awesome pics. Man I truly love JDM lures. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 25, 2008 Super User Posted January 25, 2008 Thanks for all the options. I would rather spend the $5 extra than another hour in the garage. I agree with Surfer. This is a good thread. My main lake has tremendous pressure and I was looking for opportunities to use baits without rattles and other more subtle, realistic presentations. Quote
Shadcranker Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 When the fish have seen about eight million traps, super spots, etc. in the early Spring on Guntersville, sometimes the Bayou Boogie is the ticket. I always have one tied on in the Spring. They're old school, and inexpensive, but they really work. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 26, 2008 Super User Posted January 26, 2008 Y'all ever try Mann's Little George or Schoolin' George, Cotton Cordell Gay Blade, or Reef Runner's Cicadas All are vibrating type baits like a Rat-L-Trap with no rattles Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 There are quite a few, but they are mostly Japanese market baits and not cheap. I use the Lucky Craft LV300N. If you are careful, you can make one yourself as stated. Drill holes where the rattles are, inject some glue and then sela the hole. Make sure you try to keep the rattles centered so that your bait's weight is not off centered. Good luck! Brad Quote
