ib_of_the_damned Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I recently got a 2010 Revo SX-L and when I opened it up to oil the bearings, I noticed that there was grease smeared all around the inside of the palm plate. Is there a reason for this? Can I clean it off without any ill effect to the reel? Thanks! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 13, 2010 Super User Posted March 13, 2010 Wipe it off. Grease anywhere but the gears can potentially get where it does not belong. My '09 STX was the same way. Maybe the factory does it on purpose, perhaps to protect the inner surfaces in case the reel spends a long time sitting until it gets sold. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Manufacturers of all types are notorious for over-lubing for the stated reason of shelf life and for speed of processing. It should be cleaned out, but can wait until the first regular cleaning. If it's brand new and under warranty, use it as it comes. If it's not exactly right, exchange it. Quote
Steve1357 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 A common practice on some reels, don't know about your Revo. http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1998 Quote
