sleepman00 Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I am looking for a inexpensive reel just soley for crankbaits. It doesnt have to high end or brand name just want something that has the lower speed gears and can be used without tearing up the first time used. Is there anybody out there that knows of the hidden gems for cranking. Used is ok too, Can be an older model too, just give some ideas Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 10, 2010 Super User Posted March 10, 2010 Bass Pro Shops extreme baitcaster in 5.4:1 gear ratio . $79.00 , can find them cheaper than that when they are on sale . i myself have never used one but alot of people on here really like them . Quote
smallwatermayhem Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 David Fritts Signature Series crankin' reel. These are discontinued now but you can find them on eBay. Since I'm practically a new member the site won't let me post a link to one of the reels on eBay until I've posted 10-messages without links. Just search "David Fritts" on eBay and a few of these reels will pop up. The slow-gear ratio, cheap price, and reliable performance makes this reel a no-brainer, especially for crankbait fishing. X2 I had a David Fritts reel and I really liked it. It would cast a mile and it made cranking a DD22 feel like reeling in slack line. Quote
hmongkidBee Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 You should also check out the bass pro pro qualifier reel also. It comes in a 4.7:1 and 5.4:1 gear ratio. Quote

I use BPS Extreme and Pro Qualifier baitcasting reels. Either one will do a good job for you. For a few dollars more the PQ is a much smoother reel. It has both centrifugal and magnetic braking, making casting a joy. Quote
