I just saw on a knot tying site the rapala knot. I have never used it while fishing any rapalas or crankbaits/etc. Does anyone use it on jerkbaits/cranks/slashbaits/etc. and if not what knot do you tie for these type of baits? For those that do use it, what size should the loop part be about?

I use the Rapala knot for cranks and jerks.  I like to have an oval loop about 1/4 inch across the widest part.  I don't know if it makes a huge difference, really.  I have caught fish on jerks with the Rapala knot, and also on jerks connected by a snap.  I think the snap, while more convenient has a tendency to catch vegetation/slime more readily than the knot.  When this is a problem, try the Rapala knot.

The Rapala knot is useful for when using crankbaits and jerkbaits without a split ring because tying directly to the eyelet restricts the lures action. If you're bait has a split ring, the Rapala knot use pointless.

Good points! I prefer split rings, too.
