dman Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I picked up a pack of these and am very impressed with the looks and feel of them, they feel very durable. Of course I dont have a real Basstrix to compare it to. The one problem i see with them is the odor! I cant see a fish coming anywhere near these. They smell like Ether or some kind of gas or something. Anyone know if Basstrix have an odor like this? Any idea of something i can do to eliminate the odor? Wash in water and then soak in some attractant for a while? anything? Quote
The_Natural Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Just spray some garlic oil in there... Quote
Shadcranker Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I've got both. These and the Basstrix, and they are the most comparable knock-off I've seen. Size, shape, feel, color detail, etc. very close. I guess the proof will be in the action, but I can't imagine there's much difference. As far as the smell goes, the Basstrix doesn't smell that strong, but I plan on dousing them both with BANG Shad formula anyway when fishing. Quote
basscubs1 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 the reaction strike fathead paddle tails smell like the lucky strike as well. the smell goes away after a couple of casts. Quote
smallieking Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 i have a few packs of the basstrix and some of the knock off kamikazee treats the basstrix definety swims better and looks better but i dont think its going to make a diffence in fishing i didnt notice any smell in either bait. i havent used the luck e strike BM yet but i hear u can buy them at BPS so ill probably own a few of them before too long Quote
dman Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 thanks for the input fellas....Guess i'll try and clean em up with some water before my first outing.....These really do look and feel great without the high pricetag. very well made.....And yeah BPS has them here: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=98283&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults Though i picked mine off of eBay for a little cheaper. Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 24, 2008 Super User Posted January 24, 2008 If you're worried about the smell, Berkley is coming out with a swim shad in the Powerbait line. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 If you're worried about the smell, Berkley is coming out with a swim shad in the Powerbait line. nope, HAS TO BE a basstrix, lol. The paddle tails work much better when you pay way too much for them. The knock off tail won't be as good because it doesn't cost as much. It's a well known phenomenon called "Yamasenoism" Quote

It's a well known phenomenon called "Yamasenoism" Yeah, really. Why would you pay a little extra for the original when you can just buy the knockoffs that somebody made cheaper because they didn't have to do any leg work on research and development. LBH-Seriously man we all know that you worship at the alter of ***. I'm sure they are fine products, but you don't have to throw out your insults at the "original" bait companies everytime the topic comes up. It's old and played out. We get it that you're a cheap bass-turd, that doesn't mind settling for the knockoffs. Quote
Hawgin Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I would like to throw in here, that I have no problem with knock offs, or similar style baits. I don't buy just senkos (usually only when they are in the clearance bin), but there are many times when I feel an original bait outperforms those that follow. I just don't get the constant need by some people to push or bash another product at every turn. In this case LBH just happened to be my breaking point. It could have just as easily been the "shimano posse" or the "Loomis gang" Quote
flippin Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 whats wrong with the shimano posse and the loomis gang Quote
Just_Old_Fisherman Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Being old and wise (my joke of the day), I learned long ago price does not always indicate quality/performance. There is a bigger difference in fish catching ability of a bait caused by the way people fish baits than there is between knock offs and name brands. If you think price drives catching ability, I am sure Brent can provide you some $5 each senko's. In fact I think I got a bag in the vault I would be glad to let you have at a discount $4.50 each. I still have great luck on some 30+ year old Pico Pops I probably paid less than $2 for. Have never had a bass come looking for a price tag on a bait. The wife maybe but not the fish. I can even manage to land some on my cheap old Castawy/Amer Rodsmith/All-Star rods and Cruxis/Citica reels---even though they don't have the high $ price tag. I will take fishing ability over cost of tackle every time. Quote
rboat Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 I personally think originals and knock-offs work well in different situations. I have some of every brand that I use in different conditions. I had a thread on here locked out because I mentioned one bait falls at a different rate. Some people just do not understand. If you put all your trust in only one brand, you are loosing out on some productive fishing. Quote
