Oldbritguy Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Recently bought some braided lines to try out this coming season. What's the best knot/method to join 30 lb braid to a piece of mono or flourocarbon leader? How long can the leader be? Is there a method that will enable the joint to pass easily through the tip ring for casting? Any advice welcome. . . Quote
topwater.va Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Double uni knot. I have been using this for almost a year now and it is very good and easily slides through the guides without loss of casting distance. I personally use a 2 or 3 foot leader. Quote
MMan16 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Double uni. The leader length in my opinion depends on the water clarity and the lure your using. You could use no leader or a few feet. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 This knot is easier for me to tie than a double uni, and is used by many. Roadwarrior has recommended it a number of times. It works well. http://www.stripersonline.com/Pages/Articles/article_arby_albertos_knot.shtml Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 Like topwater, I use a uni to uni knot, 6 twist's on the mono/fluro, and 8 twists on the braid. No casting problems. I have used up to a 5' leader, and that was on my swimbait rig..Never had a knot fail. with 30lb, I'm guessing your gonna be worming ect..? I'd use a 3-4' leader. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 8, 2010 Super User Posted March 8, 2010 http://www.netknots.com/html/albright_special.html This knot works best for my clumsy fingers. How much leader? As much as you can comfortably cast with. I make mine as long as possible. It allows you to change baits more times, or to trim away damaged sections before needing to replace the leader. Quote
