Hornytoad 10 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Has anyone used them?, if so what do you think of them. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 5, 2010 Super User Posted March 5, 2010 correct me if i'm wrong but i think that company went out of buissness . they had alot of problems in manufacturing their rods leading to failures . i'm pretty sure someone else bought the name because they make some great musky rods ( tooth tamer's ). so if you were to personaly ask me , i would tell you to get a different rod ...... Are they now the company that makes 'The Prince?' I heard it is one heck of a bucktail rod. it was bought by dreamcattcher lures , they are no longer connected to Fig rods , i don't know about the "prince" rods , but he has changed the formula of the blanks and are supposed to be pretty much like the old "tooth tamer" series was before all of the breakage issues . alot of musky guys like them . the guy who bought the company "name" makes musky lures so i wouldn't think he is gonna make swimbait rods but you can always use them for it , tho they are designed for muskies . if i were you i'd be looking at different rods like i said before , to me it's a crap shoot that they will hold up (the original fig rig rods ). to the original poster , what is your budget and what are you looking for in a swimbait rod and what baits are you planning on throwing with it ?? i might be able to give you some suggestions Quote
Hornytoad 10 Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 I'd like a rod for smaller swimbaits (up to 6 inches) not much longer than 7'6, my budget is not to tight, $150-$200 is reasonable. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 6, 2010 Super User Posted March 6, 2010 I'd like a rod for smaller swimbaits (up to 6 inches) not much longer than 7'6, my budget is not to tight, $150-$200 is reasonable. i have a rod that i really like for baits in the 2-6 oz. range ( will throw baits as small as a Mattlures hardgill to a ROF 16 8" Hudd ) it was made by G-blanks , you can have it custom made to how you want it . talk to Larry and he will go over every thing you want for the rod . i would suggest a 15"-17" handle (measurement from the bottom of the reel seat to the bottom of the blank , get some split grips , fuji reel seat , american tackle guides and yo will be set . the blank (ISWB945) , made by Baston/Rain shadow comes 7'10'' but can be cut down to your preferred length , i suggest you keep it 7'10 !!! the rod is pretty light and very strong . it costs about $160.00 plus shipping . i live in san Diego , ca and it cost around $20.00 to ship . you will really like this rod , here is a picture of it (the one with the REVO SX on it , the other one is also a g-blanks rod rated for 3-8 oz. baits with a REVO TORO on it ) here is G-Blanks web site - http://www.imaginationbassin.com/gblanks.htm Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 6, 2010 Super User Posted March 6, 2010 if you are looking for a stock rod , look into Mattlures rods , phenix ultra swimbait rods , okuma guide series swimbait rods ( they have a 7'6'' heavy rod you might like ) Dobyns 795ml rod is also a VERY nice rod that fits in good for the baits you want to throw , they cost around 240 bucks unless you can find a good deal on one , powell max swimbait rods are pretty good as are shimano crucials (the handles are a little to short for alot of peoples taste tho) . so look around and research these brands and see what fits your stle and comforts , you are bound to find one . if you don't like stock rods , go custom !! i myself will probably never buy a stock swimbait rod ever again !!!! Super User Hooligan Posted March 7, 2010 Super User Posted March 7, 2010 Are they now the company that makes 'The Prince?' I heard it is one heck of a bucktail rod. Nope, The Prince is a Diamonback rod, Tooth Tamer is its own entity. In regards to the Prince, I have the rod and love it for multiple things. I fish inlines, spinnerbaits, a few topwaters, and swimbaits with it. It really does excel at bladed baits, however. One of the best rods in my arsenal. Quote
