mitchell reels - i bought a 300XGe last year, didn't even spool it with line before i took it back and returned it for a pflueger president about 2 hours later. the mitchell had a nice metal-on-metal grinding noise that just didn't appeal to me. could have been just that one, but i'm not about to waste my money to find out if all of them do it.

berkley vanish - terrible for knots. absolutely terrible. used it for about a week, took RW's advice on the yo-zuri and haven't looked back.

spiderwire braid - i only use power pro now. spiderwire can EABOD.

I agree with you on these newer mitchell reels. I used to have an old ugly mitchell real as a kid and it worked well. However many years later i bought that same mitchell reel you mentioned. You could not case the thing three times before getting line twists so bad you had to cut your line. I took the reel back the next week...

ive never used it and dont plan to but as far as casting, durability and so on i dont know anything about it but the idea that red line will "disapear"is a gimick. for my money id rather buy sufix in smoke green thats gona blend with the water and is a great all around line

it's not a gimmick.study underwater photography and you will find out it's far from a gimmick.i have posted numerous links that prove it to be true.if you do a search you can find them.red is the first color to disappear and blend in with the water color.you need a red filter to photograph it and see it after this happens.bass do not have red filters on their eyes.

So I guess the theory of red hooks is BS then  :-/

Shakespeare, Storm, Abu, Fenwick, Vanish, Matzuo, Eagle Claw. They all make my list...

Also, Booyah jigs are absolutely terrible IMO, pretty much anything made by Strike King, and there's a select few products I will buy from Berkley but other than those they're mostly garbage too IMO

...oh and anything that says "endorsed by Bill Dance" or "Roland Martin" I won't touch with my 8ft. flippin stick.

No, red hooks can induce a reaction.  The shallower the better.  Over 6 feet in stained water, or 10 feet in clear water though, and they just look kinda gray to the fish.

What the other post was talking about was the red line which is translucent.  The red line lets light through, and supposedly disappears at depths between 6-12 feet because the red light is filtered out... I say supposedly because something will still show up.  Clear/translucent line still shows up at 12 feet, but is pretty difficult to see.   At 12 feet the red line will show up just like clear line would at 12 feet.  Very difficult to see for our eyes, but still visible to a bass's eyes, which are superior to our own.

i say they line is BS because ive seen a demonstration of a C rig with a red bead in a tank. at the botto of the tank (i guess near 10 feet) it was still very visible and the bass in the tank actually went for the bead rather than the lizard. for me and most people i know fo they dont fish in water that is deep enoguh for red to filter out and the way i see it if i stick to a color close to the color water im fishing i cant go wrong

wow i love YUM plastics. i think they are excellent baits. i love their dingers, but after using some of ***, they will be second in my plastic line-up. *** were so much softer and wigglier. but theres something about yum that puts fish in the boat for me.

I save my hate for people who club baby seals and root for the Cubs. ;)

I've got no problem with any company that's in business to help me catch fish.

i boycot this guy! i club baby seals and i am a die hard cub fan! we have a bunch of seals in illinois?

I can't believe people hate storm!!! ;) There WiggleWart is the only crank I throw!  But the brands I boycott are:

Strike King

Stren

BOOYAH

Eagle Claw

Vanish

Spiderwire

Infomercial crap

Anything from a BR advertiser or suggested by a BR member.  ;)

Just kidding.  I can't think of a manufacture out there that is so horrible that you should boycott everything they make.  Sure some products turn out to be junk but not even everyones favorite Lucky Craft is free from junk baits.  I've even caught fish on Cactus Jack's bleeding crankbaits.  Yes, the ones they sold on TV with the sent tablets.

I dont really boycott one brand, but i boycott a few baits. zoom horny toads suck. Use almost any other brand and will catch more fish. Also, how come no one is sticking up for GULP? Smallmouth go crazy over it. The strike king 3X is awesome on carolina rigs or shakey heads, because they float and have great action. Just keep them in their original packaging in a shady place.

O yeah,

GO CUBS

tv lures

wal mart

bps brand (unless designed by Mr. Comby, my great grandpa)

"gimic" lures "guaranteed to double your catch" types

storm "swim" baits-fall over in the water, like putting a rotton piece of grass on your line.

but this is funny, i have an abu cardinal and love it, i've caught the most fish on go figure, abu rod, stren or berkely line, and eagle claw hooks, and renegade worms. i'm just confident with em. the only thing from wal mart ill buy. i,ve never really had a problem with any of it.

eagle claw hooks=dull, rust easy, and for a buck more why not get a real hook like owner?

booyah spinnerbaits and buzzbaits=overrated junk!

bullet weights(the brand) =no a sinker isnt a sinker, those things are just plain ol junk!

gulp baits=better for salwater, can anyone justify the price or durability of those things?

shakespeare anything, especially the dreaded ugly stick=dont know how they can even sell them.I would personally give up fishing if my only option was an ugly stick.

I think that the ugly stick fly rod is the biggest joke in the rod business. You would be better trying to club the fish with it.

I would like to add Norman Lures to that list - I have not gotten one that runs true from the box yet, and many are completely un-tunable...

Also Yo-Zuri Hybrid line. I keep trying it because everyone swears by it, but it kinks and snaps on me every single time I use it.

You are so right about those Norman lures. Never again for me either. Junk out of the box.

I have 4 Normans 2 Deep 22'2 the other 2 12"s all ran true outta the box, i have caught fish with all 4!
