Guest muddy Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 whew! im so glad this went over well. i was half expecting this to be very contraversial. lol.i personally like booyah's stuff. its good stuff, a little pricey though. seems like everyone hates the same stuff...shakespeare, eagle claw, and storm. lol. not very suprising. : i will agree, storms stuff is pretty darn bad. so is manns. i wont be buying from either of them any more. GET HONEST YOU WERE HOPING THIS WOULD STIR THE POT Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 am i the only one that likes eagle claw hooks? No. I like them too. Don't think they are the best out there, but, they work well for me and don't think the fish can tell the difference betweem an Eagle Claw and Gammy. Quote
Evan Pease Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hmmm. I dont like Gulp, Yamamoto, Shakespear, Booyah, Stren line, and Yum. I know Booyah isnt too bad but I had a huge bass pull one of those stupid lever hooks off of a boogiebait the first or second trip with it. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Flying lures, banjo minnows, helicopter lure, that stupid rocket launcher rod-n-reel & anything that is sold on tele commercials. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 am i the only one that likes eagle claw hooks? No. I like them too. Don't think they are the best out there, but, they work well for me and don't think the fish can tell the difference betweem an Eagle Claw and Gammy. I like some of them, too. Their weedless hooks are pretty good, and their small hooks for panfishing, like the Aberdeens, are very good. Quote
Troutfisher Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I'll have to disagree with some of you guys on Eagle Claw hooks. I love them, they're the only brand that I buy. I can't stand any lure on television, especially that rocket rod thing that launches the lure...that stupid thing wouldn't handle a sizeable size bass. Go to Dick's Sporting Goods and spend $40 on a nice rod and reel combo and teach your kids to fish on that. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 am i the only one that likes eagle claw hooks? I occasionally use the EC Lazer Sharp hooks. I haven't used them a lot, so I can't tell you that much about them. But if I'm out of Gammys, I wouldn't think twice about using one. I'm 16, and short on cash. Don't be hating on cheap stuff. I love Abu's and I'll be buying more of them in the future. But started fishing with $30 Shakespeare reels from walmart, and I caught just as many fish back then. 99% of time, the lures don't matter, it's all the angler. Quote
Fish Man Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I'll have to disagree with some of you guys on Eagle Claw hooks. I love them, they're the only brand that I buy. x2, never had one single problem with them, wrok just as good as gammy's and are a heck of alot cheaper Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 those pfluegar lures that you always see in sale bins, and the fishing department at the Orlando Bass Pro because those dudes act like they know what they are talking about, but don't have a clue! What happened to the guys in there last year that were really helpful? Quote
KYbass1276 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 those pfluegar lures that you always see in sale bins, and the fishing department at the Orlando Bass Pro because those dudes act like they know what they are talking about, but don't have a clue! What happened to the guys in there last year that were really helpful? They probally got canned when they asked for a raise. Anymore I think if they can breath then there quilifed to work at BPS. Guest avid Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 There are way too many fishing products out there that I simply won't buy because they are cheaply made. About the only plastics I won't buy ever, are the 3x type "stretchy" baits. they work, but down here in the florida heat they turn into a puddle of goo. I won't buy any reel that doesn't say "Daiwa" on it. We fun alot on the boards about these things, but the truth is that there are alot of good reels out there. I use Daiwa exclusively because I like the way they feel. the only rods I use are the higher end Loomis and St. Croix. again,, lot's of good rods out there, but I know these brands very well and so have a pretty good idea how they will perform for me. Yep,,,,,I'm pretty closed minded about rods and reels, but I love trying out new lures. Price is not an object for me one way or the other. I have inexpensive lures that catch alot of fish. RatLtraps are a good example, just change out the hooks.............oh and speaking of hooks, I think a quality hook is worth it's weight in gold. You can be fishing with a thousand dollar outfit but if the hook won't stick and stay stuck your wasting your time. I use owner hooks almost exclusively.. That cutting point is a mean mutha. One other thing.... like most of us I love topwaters. The lobina rico has something about it that the fish really like. It is the only popper I ever used where I have had bass launch clear out of the water and dive down on the bait mouth first. I was absolutely dumbstruck the first time I saw this. It has happened more than once, but only with a rico. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Anything sold by infomercial. The rage lure of the year. - I never like the chatterbait and the basstrix brand may never be in my box. Other than that I'm game for anything. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Only thing I really boycott is low quality reels.Shimano ,Diawa stuff like that. Watch it Greenhorn! Your treading in quicksand w/out a rope. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I save my hate for people who club baby seals and root for the Cubs. I've got no problem with any company that's in business to help me catch fish. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Shakespeare® Cajun Line & i'm with fluke on that Anything sold by infomercial crap. Quote
Fish Man Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 cajun line is the biggest thing of BS ive seen in a while Quote
Mattlures Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Got to agree with Avid. You just cant risk skimping on cheap hooks. I mean your only saving a few bucks and they DO make a huge diference. I only hate brands that fool beginners into buying their junk. I still cant believ people buy into those stupid infomercial baits. I hear it all the time about about how this lure is so great it is going to be banned from tournaments. I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE FALL FOR IT!!!! To me they are conning the customers with those adds. dman Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 i dont know if i boycotted, but i dont buy Rebel lures...Just dont like how they look. Wont buy a strike king spinnerbait....Just terrible luck with them and getting them to run straight Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 If there is one brand I will no longer buy, it is Norman Lures crankbaits. I bought two on the recommendation of someone and the piece of crap didn't run true out of the box. I guess I am spoiled with Rapalas, but shame on me. The second one was also out of tune. I also threw out the danged receipt on the way to the lake so I don't know if I can even exchange them. I am thinking of sending them back, well at least one of them (I got one of them hung up) with a tactfully written letter informing them on my less than enthusiastic praise of them. Those Normans sure got me stormin' > And Berkley Vanish. I don't think I need to say more. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 cajun line is the biggest thing of BS ive seen in a while I agree, but I did buy a spool of it to use as backing. It does do a great job at that Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 22, 2008 Super User Posted January 22, 2008 Any TV lure Force Motor Vanish Sheakspeare Motorguide Any cheap trailer tire Aftermarket Body Parts(ALL) Berkley Glup Quote
Davis Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Yum plastics - just don't like how they feel and are loaded with salt on the outside. Haven't caught anything on there baits. So no more for me. Berkley Gulp - Now I caught my personal best smallie on there shakey worms but IMO it was a fluke and me knowing that there were some big smallies in this small hole. Fished with them the rest of the year and didn't get anything with them. Dry out and you can't reuse them. Over priced for a plastic. Back to original power bait formula for me. Couple bucks cheaper and more productive for me. Quote
