i have been following up on the brand loyalty thread and decided it would be neat (maybe helpful) to have a thread about brand boycotts. lol. so, what are some brands that you wont even touch?

for me it is:

gycb/kinami-over price and not durable enough...not worth it.

eagle calw-dull, poor quality hooks.

shakespeare-i've used their rods, reels, and line, and the rods sucked, reels broke, and line was terrible.

and thats all that comes to mind...

This should get interesting.

I will never buy:

Shakespeare

Megabass (I'm sure they are great, but I am 100% satisfied with Lucky Craft)

your right about shakespeare wont touch any of there stuff kinami is garbage to me but i like gycb but i only buy there stuff online from tackle warehouse which makes the stuff sooo much cheaper. eagle i dont know i dont use their offsets but there straight shanks are the best they give me everything i want out of a straight shank that gamma doesnt. O and i dont likebooyah all there stuff is garbage espeacially there jigs

War Eagle spinnerbaits.  I know a lot of people who say they are the best, but to me Strike King is 4X as good.

Zoom plastics.  I don't really think they are that bad, but other major companies and smaller guys sale same baits with salt or scent or just at a better price. Zoom just seems like plastic to me.

This is a tough one because even though you might hate a bait, brand, etc, it doesn't mean that it doesn't work and people don't catch fish with it, so with that said Here is my hate list:

-Eagle Claw

-Shakespeare

-Storm (some people might disagree but of the 3 I have bought, all   have broke)

-Castaic Soft baits (Poor Quality, paint job doesn't stand up to much abuse. I was throwing one through weeds, it got caught in some thick stuff, so I pulled it through and when I got it back in, all I had was lead and metal, no plastic...)

-Booyah

-Jerry Rago (I Would rather buy a hud, or a 3:16 or mattlures)

-Basstrix (Even though I bought some at the ISE, then sold them 30 min later for double, I am tired of them littering the ebay swimbait page.  I can't wait till this craze is over)

-BPS Brand Baits (Never had one run straight.  Had one that had a hole in it so instead of a top water, it was a bottom walker.)

that's all I can think of now.

Interesting !!!!

First thing that comes to mind is Kistler rods. Rods are ok, I guess; but I don't fancy the owner of the company.

For some reason I don't buy Quantum; nothing against it but I always find another brand with a better product at similar price. And their design team sucks.Either too flashy or too bland. Like they would try to sell jewelry to teenager girls or suits for amish people. Not much in between.

I don't spend my money on Eagle claw stuff, even if it's cheap.(or maybe that's why?)

'Nuff for now...

I hate diawa with a passion.  I had a bad experience with a diawa reel years ago and it has stuck.  I know this will get killed by the diawa guys, so I need the shimano and abu posse to step up and back me on this one.  I do however like the diawa jerkbaits.  I caught a bunch of fish on them last year because a guy sold them really cheap.

And yes, shakespeare is junk.

Only thing I really boycott is low quality reels.

Shimano ,Diawa stuff like that.  :P

Try chewing on a Zoom worm.  You'll get more salt than a can of Campbell's soup.

What are your experiences?  I've never had one straighten, or fail in any way personally.

That might be a tough one, many of the posse folk will agree that Daiwa, Shimano, Abu are all of the same caliber, it's a matter of personal preference.  I think you'll find that even though they choose elsewise, they wouldn't go so far as to say that the Daiwas suck

Kinami is produced in the same factory as Yamamoto.

Lowe's Kobalt tools are produced in the same factory as Snap-On tools. And there ain't no comparison.

For me it's YUM plactics. At least until they stop pouring the salt-shaker on them. Bake it into the plastic, fine. But I hate reaching into a bag and having my fingers caked with the stuff.

And Lobina Rico topwaters. There is nothing about these that justifies more than $4 to $5 bucks. Definately not worth $20.

Oh i know kinami is the same thing but i dont like the 2-tones and swirls plus it might be 100% mental  but the plastic feels different to me than gycb

LBH i knew someone would bring up pflueger after i posted it i dont use any of there stuff mainly because  i bought my fill of okuma and quantum reels enough to match up all my rods and thats all i use

thats not really boycott just preferance

Dunno about you, but the first Mann's product I ever used was the "Jelly Worm".  Augertail come along later if I recall correctly.  The Jelly was the first worm I ever used as a kid.  They came 5 to a pack as I remember.

I boycott the airline industry, I'll drive down south to fish their "world famous" lakes, and try to shop at Erickson brothers companies as little as possible (Gander mountain is one of theirs).

Storm makes a few good products, like the hot-n-tot, but their line in general leaves much to be desired.

I already posted about Mercury and Berkley in the brand loyal thread.

In general, I don't hold it against a company for making a bad product or two. It happens. What they charge for their product is what ever they want. If I see a reason to pull out the $$$ to buy something, I will, otherwise I will pass, and that is what makes the freedom of choice in America so great. Trying to create a monopoly, or limit choices is my main beef with company's. This is where Mercury/Lund/Brunswick/ect... and Berkley make the top of my list, and why the airline industry and E bros. are on my s__t list too.

whew! im so glad this went over well. i was half expecting this to be very contraversial. lol.

i personally like booyah's stuff. its good stuff, a little pricey though.

seems like everyone hates the same stuff...shakespeare, eagle claw, and storm. lol. not very suprising. :;)

i will agree, storms stuff is pretty darn bad. so is manns. i wont be buying from either of them any more.

another one i'd like to add is strike king 3x plastics. they are just terrible. they are soooo durable that its very hard to even put those things on the hook. also, ive had em sliding down the hook alot. and thats not even the worst part. they get so deformed so easily. if the are bent for over 24hrs. they remain in that position and are pretty much worthless. and have you even had a regular plastic touching the 3x? they eat right thru the 3x. pretty bad stuff if you ask me.

I still can't understand how people think Kinami is made by a company other than Yamamoto when it says it right on the bag.

I hate Yum too, better hope you don't have a cut or hang nail on your fingers when using there baits.  I think the whole salt thing has been beat to death anyway.

Also I don't buy any kind of scents.  I don't buy into that whole therory.   If the bait has scent thats fine but I don't add it if it does not have any   Also if bass pro don't get there act togather they will be added to the list, rude a#% employees here latetly.

Gee, I feel bad.

I am not boycotting anything right now.

I will never buy another Volvo, but that's about it.

I am boycotting speaking with my brother-in-law, a retard at best.

Man, I guess I am not angry with anyone or any product.

Bummer.
