so does anyone think that the abu winch that i have mounted on a stcroix avid 7' MM would be a bad decision for my crankbait set up... or is there someone who thinks there is a better rod for it(already got the reel so no changes on it)

That sounds like a great setup to me!

I had a Winch on a mhm 7' and it was a great set up.  I think you should be okay with a mm but wonder if there is the backbone needed for heavier or deep diving cranks.

I think it sounds just about perfect.  I have been using a Revo STX on a Premier 66MM for a couple years for light cranks and topwater, and firefightn15 has a point, the St. Croix med power mod action rods don't have much backbone.  Not enough to do well with large billed cranks like Rapala DT15, large Fat Free Shads, etc.  That will make a fine crankbait setup if you stick with cranks in the 1/4 to 5/8 oz range.  If you're looking to sling deep divers along with small to mid sized cranks, look into a MH power rod.
