Ultralight reels - Shimano Sedona 500 vs. Pflueger President 6720x

which one would you guys recommend?  same price range of about 50-60 bucks... ive never used anything lower than a symetre so i am not sure how the lower end models hold up.. never used a pflueger before either.. thanks

I'd say neither. Personally I'd look for a Pflueger Arbor 7430. It has the body of a UL/L class reel with the spool diameter of a 2500-series Symetre.

You get the light weight of a compact reel without the line twist problems that go along with small diameter spools.

There are few on Ebay right now for about $70, but you can pick one up for a little less if you're patient.

I've owned a couple of Pflueger Presidents and they are a surprisingly good reel for the price. Durable too.  Bought them as backups to my Symetre, but found them to perform about as well.  I prefer the 6725 because of the extra spool capacity (115 yds vs 105 for the 6720).  Got it matched with with a 6' SC Premier (Light, 4 - 8 line weight).  Prefer light power since it balances better with the 6725 and I rarely use 2 Lbs test.  Don't know much about the Sedona 500, only the old Sedona 8000 which isn't applicable to this discussion.

Pflueger also makes the President XT ($20 more), but don't own one.

I would go with the Sedona. I have had two Sedona 4000s. One of them for over ten years. When I finally upgraded to a higher end reel, I gave the old Sedona to a friend who is still using it. I also have a Sedona 1000 on my trout rod. I've only used it twice, but it seems to be just as high quality as the 4000s and I expect it to last just as long.

president, great reels for the price and very durable, not proud of this but left my ultralight combo outside over the winter, picked it up the other day and reel was just like it came out of the box.

I have 2 of the 30's that I  use for wacky rigs and shakey heads. The President is a fine reel IMHO.

i wouldnt get either, step up a level and get the shimano sehara.  its like $60-70 and is alot better imho.  i had the sedona and president and both went back withing a month of owning.  in both something came loose in the gearing and was making horrible sounds.  my sehara has been great now for 6 months without a problem though.

wow seems pretty evenly split with 2 guys recommending an upgrade.. i would use a better reel... but honestly, im only using this combo for perch at lake michigan.. i bought a premier 6'6 ul fast action rod.. which i already think was overkill.. i just want to save a few bucks on the reel.. i honestly am leaning towards the pflueger.. extra spool.. and i think its made of aluminum... the sedona is made from graphite i believe..

I have both those reels & prefer the President slightly.  Seemed to have line issues a little more frequently with the Sedona.

I actually prefer the BPS PQ10 over both those reels, and they're on sale right now for $50.  I now have 3 of the PQ10 & only have the President & Sedona for backup or friends.  For frame of reference, these reels are/were all used primarily for small river fishing, and occasionally for trout fishing.

I have used sedona for crappie fishing, but I had to return it. That thing was noisier than my mustang. I have been using symetre since then, and never had a problem.

President. I also fish Lake Michigan for perch using the 6730 model nice little reel, Its also my crappie rig.

I have been spooled fishing for perch, you never know whats going to bite
