Looking to hit bass pro before sale and trade in ends.  I need a good worm rod and reel set up.  Not sure how much I will spend but would like to keep it under 175.  Anyone got some suggestions?  Thanks

I'm currently in love with my carbonlite for worm fishing.  6'9" MH XF.  I'm not sure if you can still get the introductory price of 79.99.  But normally they're just at 100 bucks.  I grabbed a carbonlite reel today to match it (on sale for 79.99), which seems like a fantastic fit to it.  The rod is ultra light, and ridiculously sensitive.  For the cash I don't think you can beat it.

I really like my BPS Extreme Woo Daves worm rod. It is a 7' Medium power fast action. Works great with my BPS Viper spinning reel.  Dont think they even make that reel any more though. Picked it up @ the bargain store in Springfield 5 or 6 years ago. Most of my worming is finesse worms with 1/8 ounce or less weight. I do really like the extreme rods. I think for the money they are a steal. Hersh

I have a Pro Qualifier combo (7'MXF/6.4:1) that is my favorite worm setup. It is worth a look. ;)

if you can possible go over 175 then look at the shimano cumara and a shimano sehara reel.  i bought the rod on sale for $150.  and i think the reel cost me like $75 or maybe less.  so thats $225, but its an awesome setup.  i use it mainly for shakeyhead and weightless senkos.

Shimano doesn't participate in the trade in.  You didn't specify spinning or casting but either way, I would say go with a pro qualifier or carbonlite setup.  I hear the carbonlites have been low on stock so the pro qualifier may be easier to obtain.  I would go 7'MH.

Going the baitcaster route.  Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  Gotta get over there today.

I agree that 7" MH is the way to go (regardless of whether you use baitcasting or spinning gear).

Well I never made it over there. >;) Ran out of time.  Probably gonna go the used route now. Thanks for the input though.

Great thread, I am also looking to get a worm rod.  But, I am looking at a Shimano Crucial 6'-6" 1/4-1/2oz. M rod.  I love the Shimano rods, very sensitive!

I was there last weekend and really wanted a carbonlite but didnt get there early enough. They said people were waiting outside for the doors to open and they were gone in no time. I ended up getting a 7' Vendetta paired with a Johnny Morris signature reel for $180.

The guy helping me out was very helpful. He said he has 3 carbonlites and loves them. If you can make it to the store, pick you up one with a carbonlite reel. That should be in your pricerange even without the trade-in.
