Jeff, those Premiers are great reels. Let me know if you want me to make them even better.... ;)

Good to see you and Randy and a quite a few other familiar faces there yesterday.

In case anyone's wondering....yeah, I didn't get out of there alive:

That is one sexy looking reel.  Love the finish on it.

I got the Abu Garcia STX for $160 at BPS on saturday in Harrisburg, PA

Geez...I hope someone from BPS sees this thread.

Cutomer satisfaction can be so simple. In this case

nothing more than a raincheck: Happy campers and

the company makes another sale. What's so hard

'bout that?

Since nobody I ever spoke to at BPS knows anything about fishing, it's unlikely they would be on this site to see the posts.

My assessment of their problem is relatively simple. It's the 80/20 rule.

20% of products usually generate 80% of sales. Since these guys don't get it, they see a store thats 80% full of stock and think they have it covered.

Their stock position on SALE ITEMS is unexplainable.

I agree with supporting your local dealers. I am so lucky to have a family owned business that caters to the needs of local anglers. I can get just about anything I want or need and they will special order items. They have very competitive prices and stand behind what they sell. Like I said, very very lucky. Not to defend BPS or anyone else but with the way the economy is, every retailer is watching inventory levels and not willing to risk over buying and having dead inventory in stock. The fact you couldn't get a rain check is what's surprising. Sad.

Hey Nitro, I know quite a few people at the main BPS office.  Who have you spoke to that doesn't know anything about fishing?  A marketing person maybe?  Because the guys I know that handle the fishing area are pretty avid outdoorsmen.  And if they weren't some of the best in the industry they wouldn't be working for BPS.

There are a multitude of things that can cause a store not to have enough of an advertised item, but in the case of the CarbonLite it's simple... demand is far surpassing supply.  That factory is making the reels as fast as they can & just can't get caught up.

But I'll see if I can't pass on your vast knowledge of retail sales to them.  I'm sure they've not heard of this 80/20 rule you speak of.

I picked up one of the two Carbonlites at the Dania beach store.  There was one more left at around 1:30 for anybody interested.

I was questioning the foam grips on it, but I kind of like them.  It is a very nice fit on the carbonlite rods.  It's almost scary how light it is.  Hopefully after this 30-40 mph wind dies down I'll actually get to use it some and provide a little feedback.

A good grasp of the term "bait and switch" might be helpful for a few complaining about it, considering one of their mentioned acceptable options would truly be "bait and switch".

Could you trade for a Shimano this year?

shimano.jpg

this is at least the third year in a row that BPS has included this petty snide dig at shimano (never mind that shimano sponsors their own 'take a kid fishing' events). BPS could have just said, "shimano reels not included".

BPS is becoming more and more useless.

I wouldn't say they're useless. It's places like Bass Pro that show us just how great Tackle Warehouse's service really is. ;)

I mean, how can you judge what "good service" means until you've had the misfortune of receiving bad service?

Just to clarify, the majority of the employees I've dealt with at the Atlanta BPS have been great. It's the management that sucks big hairy ones.

Good point, lol.

I love being able to call TW and talk to someone who actually knows something about fishing and can help. Call it sexist but the BPS up here is loaded with young girls with fake tans and their nails done or older men who are just miserable. I actually like to avoid BPS, and it is interesting that Cabela's up here is the exact opposite and I enjoy going there

Not if you enjoy fishing or hunting.  It would be close between BPS or Shimano as to who is fighting harder right now in Washington to keep allowing you places to fish.  But those two companies are definately doing the most of any in the fishing industry.

Did you know there are proposals right now to turn over half of the US coast line into a protected area?  No fishing or motorized boats allowed.  Did you know there is another proposal to give the Federal government the right to regulate activities on all bodies of water that flow into the ocean?  It would include the Great Lakes & nearly all rivers.  Shimano & BPS are leading the way to halt all this knee jerk, "save the planet" legislation that has no scientific validity.

Sorry to add to off topic stuff, but I just get tired of all the worthless hatred on this board.  If fishermen don't learn to come together better as a group they're going to continue to lose their right to even fish at all.

The Ft.Myers store has removed every spool of power pro line.  They would give no explanation.   I went there to return 2 out of 3 long sleeve T's I got for Christmas.  Each of the T's were marked the same size, none were the same size! If you find something in the catalog chances are that store doesnt carry it in stock.  But they have isles of nick-nacks, under armour sport clothes, and over sized bait fishing equipment not used any further south than Jax.

BPS is becoming more and more useless.

My experience has been just the opposite. Any issue I've had has always been resolved to my satisfaction. Do they get it right every time? No. Do they seem to value my business? Yes.

There is a line between, "I am not happy about this," and "This company is useless." I don't think bashing companies or products has a place on this board. Just my opinion.

I placed an order over the phone with BPS Sunday. Bought some line and crankbaits, also a Carbonlite reel. They placed the reel on back order. I will get the reel on the 11th. Got the sale price and $1.00 shipping. ;)

yea I guess it depends on which BPS you go to because the one in NY gave me a raincheck including the reel trade in price and said they would ship it for free as soon as it came in.  Its definitely a supply in demand thing right now.

I'm not a bass pro fan either. I have realized lately that it is more of a tourist attraction.  I can't find the colors I want most of the time. You would think that such a large store would carry everything you could think of.

My local tackle shop carries more lures, rods, reels, etc. at about a quarter of the size of bps.

BPS tries to make Shimano look bad every year with that statement on the classic flyer.

I used to date a girl that worked at BPS, and she always gave me killer deals on spooling my reels with house line...about the only good thing I've ever received from BPS.

Someone on here said they'd rather go to a Dicks than to their BPS.  I can't say anything about the BPS near you, but the one near me is wonderful (Baltimore MD).  The Dicks near me doesn't even come close to having the amount of stuff that Bass Pro does.  The people are nice, and very helpful, and usually quite knowledgeable, as opposed to the guys at Dicks, who are usually just that.

As far as purposely being out of stock...I doubt it.  It's in high demand.  Things run out.

I do not think BPS is trying to make Shimano look bad. Shimano does not want to be a part of the promotion, that's fine. They also hold a very large part of the market. So how do you avoid having to tell people "no" a 1000 times during the sale, and bring reels in for no reason, you advertise the fact. It is the winning marketing strategy in this situation.
