Bought a lot this winter, and I mean a freakin LOT.  2 Zillions, a Sol, a Fuego, a Dobyns .......sorry sometimes I drift.

Sold a bit this winter too, made a few trades, made a big donation to a local high school bass club and got the usual Christmas and birthday gift cards (unfortunately all from BPS - keep that in mind later).

I have decided after all of the fine tuning and spring prep, I don't have a lipless crankbait set-up that I am really comfortable with. Have been using a Lightning Rod Shock MH, kinda soft and an Accurist Burner. I would really like to upgrade the rod. The reel is getting a new home on a Dobyns possibly too so reel suggestions are welcome also.

What do you fellas use? What and Why actions, lengths, tapers? Reel speeds? Have been intrigued by the KVD Tour Crankbait Rods and really trying to find my preference in reels, I don't have 2 of the same other than the new Zillions. (A 50th that may just be fer lookin at.) Would like to buy something at BPS and use up these cards.

Last year really tried to "learn" jigs, this is Twitch's "Year o' the Crank".

Thanks for your help!   Again

It was a 24" in diameter, very angry snapping turtle that I caught burning a spinnerbait over WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A LOG, go figure.  Not bad for a Medium action rod and 15# P-Line FloroClear.  Took us 25min to get him up and out.  And yes, he was the talk of the summer block party, tasted great.

Mine is an Avid AVC70MM/ Chronarch.

You need a fast reel for times when you

want to burn the lipless crankbait.

i use the falcon bucoo 5-17  its designed for lipless cranks ,,,i am trying to deecide what reel to put on it though i have a older daiwa and am trying to decide on either the new quantum kinetic pt or spend extra money on the quantum kevin van dam pt from bass pro ?

I use my crankbait setups...either a 7'MH Lucky Craft rod and Curado E5 or a 6'10MH Carrot Stix Gold and a Daiwa Sol.

I've been throwing mine on a fast action rod, simply because it seems easier to to pop and clear weeds.  A fast reel does help.  I'm using a St. Croix LTBC70MF "Teaser" with a Zillion SHA loaded with 10 or 12# CXX.

I use the same rod, my reel is a Fuego spooled with 12lb Trilene 100% Fluoro.

I do like the CXX idea.

After much research, folks lean toward Medium Heavy and fast. Do you have to play them that much more carefully with a fast tip? The KVD rod seems pretty soft.

May have to invest in another High Speed reel.

7'6" MF Lowrider with Revo STX , and 10lb. Pline. I like the longer rod for more leverage. 6.4:1 ratio seems fine for me. I use XR 50&75's, If I did use heavier i'd go with MHF Avid

I use either a Shimano Curado 5.1:1 on a Carrot Stix CLTX721P-C w/ 12# FC for more open-water OR a BPS Extreme 7:1 on a Falcon Original 7MHF w/ 50# PP for heavier cover/thick grass/extreme ripping.

If you notice, KVD puts alot more effort into ripping his baits free than others do.

I went and held a KVD Tour Crank rod tonight@Gander (on sale for $99) and not thrilled. Seemed very heavy and very soft. I am positive he uses something from a custom division of Quantum, because as BigRick stated he does alot more "ripping" than your average bear and I would be shocked if it was with that rod.

I passed on it and am still on the hunt.

I have been using the BPS Extreme Woo Daves 7'4" split grip rod and a Revo S with 15 lb. trilene flourocarbon.

The rod is medium action, casts a country mile. I'd say it's a fast tip. The medium action is the key, don't like moderate for ripping out of hydrilla myself, but the medium lets me play a fish nicely.

Powell has a Spook and Trap rod, I think it's exclusive to Tackle Warehouse. I just broke my topwater rod, so I may give that rod a look and I'm sure I will give lipless cranks a go on it as well.

I used to think I needed a technique specific rod but then realized I did not.  I use a Falcon Low Rider 6-6 M action rod and a BPS Extreme 7.1:1 reel.  It has served me well for several years now.

I use one of two set ups. One is my 7'7 MF Cumara. This is my medium crankin rod and it has a E5 so it isnt my first choice, but it still does a heck of a job. When Im not swimmin a jig however, I love to throw traps on my 7'11 MHF Cumara. This is one heck of a rod for fishing grass and covering a lot of water. Either way, I prefer a little longer rod with a faster tip. Im almost always throwing traps on Guntersville, and these are what I feel most comfortable rippin those XR50's out of the grass with.

The rods KVD actually uses are the "Quantum KVD Tour Signature Elite " not the Tour crankin' stick thats available at BPS. The Elite is available on his personal website and ***. I had the opportunity to check out a few of his rods that he had at the local fishing show with him. The Elite series is way different than the regular Tour rods.

By the way I use the e21 Crankin Stix 7ft 2in and a Steez 100SHA with 15lb yozuri ultra soft copolymer.
