MN Bass Man Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Any idea who is producing these for Gander? I had a chance to hold a few in the store today, and was impressed. They're attractive, light, good components. Would have considered trying one, but the didn't have the model I'm in the market for. They also have the X-Factor branding on a few reels and also some soft plastics, which say they're made by Big Bite Baits. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 The reels are made by quantum, i know one of them looks identical to the code.... i wouldn't own the reels, the rods might be alright Quote
MN Bass Man Posted February 25, 2010 Author Posted February 25, 2010 Yeah, I thought it was like the Code also. With the flipping switch, and where it says burner, it uses the same graphic. I wonder about the rods though. Quote
mahagowitz Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I got a Gander Mountain reel that was made by Pinnacle, model Vision XLT 7.0:1, got it for $70. Quote
MarauderYak Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 The reels are made by quantum, i know one of them looks identical to the code.... i wouldn't own the reels, the rods might be alright Those reels do come out of the same factory, but it isn't owned by Quantum. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 The GSX Tournament is essentially a Quantum Burst, and the X-Factor is essentially a Quantum Catalyst. Both of the reels have extra bearings and "bling" compared to their Quantum counterparts. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 They aren't hiding who makes their reels for them. Here is a GSX reel. The X-Factor reels have Performance Tuned on them and ACS Brakes. They aren't trying to fool anyone. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 gonna go out on a limb and say they are quantums since they say quantum and use the same symbol...good prices on the Titanium and x-factor though. Quote
Northern Strain Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The one that looks like the Energy pt sounds like a good deal. It is the top of the line reel, that Gander Mountain has dubbed the "X-Factor" while the other reels, the ones that look like the code are under the GSX label aka guide series extreme. I would consider the X-Factor, because it is like the energy, and it is performance tuned (pt). I am a quantum guy, and have never had a problem with the higher end reels ($99+) and am wanting to get a X-Factor rod and reel. Quote
Deep Cranker Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 The salesmen at Gander mtn will tell you that the more expensive x factor is an energy but it not.The specs line up with the catalyst. They have three one I think is a code one a burst and the upper end is a catalyst. I bought the black one that is a catalyst on sale for $129.00. It says quantum right on it and has x factor pt on the side does not have Gander Mtn on it anywhere. They just changed the model number to start with gmx. Quote
tommy.aldridge2008 Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 i work at gander mountain the x factor rood is made by kisler as well as the gsx. Quote
AnglerNV Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I also work at Gander and the rods are not made by Kistler. I am having a difficult time getting a straight answer on this one. I have been told by more than 1 person in upper management that they are made by a smaller company whos name im having a hard time beating out of them. For some stupid reason they're staying tight lipped about it. The rods are great for the $$. I have used primarily croix's for the last 10 years and they are comparable to the avid series. Not as lightweight or sensitive as the legends but every bit as nice as the avid's. For 149.99, they are a great deal for a lifetime warranty rod. As far as the x-factor reel, it is basically a Catalyst PT. It is NOT an energy so dont let any sales associate tell you otherwise. It is a catalyst with a new paint job. It is a nice reel for the 129.99 introductory price but I would not spend 150$ on it. Spend the extra 20 and buy a curado. I will do some more digging on the rods but I know for a fact that they are NOT made by Kistler. Quote
MN Bass Man Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 In doing a little more research, I discovered that Dean Rojas claims to have had a hand in designing the rods. He was also recently sponsored by Gander Mountain. Apparently the X-Factor name will be on many of Ganders house products, including clothing.
