Super User Tin Posted February 28, 2010 Super User Posted February 28, 2010 After the Loomis Warranty thread a few weeks ago it kind of scared me off from them. Now this morning I'm checking out more new Airrus rods and as of July 2009 all there rods only come with a 3 year warranty against the typical material and workmanship defects where as it used to be lifetime. I guess it is just Cumara's and Carrot's for me from now on. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Powell used to be lifetime as well. :-? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 28, 2010 Super User Posted February 28, 2010 As far as I know, Powell is still lifetime. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 28, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2010 As far as I know, Powell is still lifetime. You're right, I just read somewhere it was down to a 3 year but the majority of sites say lifetime, and if you break it and it is your fault I guess it is $40 and a new rod. Is this correct? Quote
fathom Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 have only broken 3 rods in my time...all three (falcon, abu and all star) were well within the warranty...all three warranty claims were denied. needless to say, i'll take the expeditor service...and, if that ever goes away, the cumara line would be hard to beat. midnighthrasher Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 SHIMANO, SHIMANO, SHIMANO...... You want a waranty that is amazing. Get a shimano. Broke 2 rods last summer had replacement that week!!! Quote
The Rooster Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 My brother in law has broken several Shimano rods, I think they were all his fault too, but every single one of them was replaced at the place of purchase without question. Quote

Don't get me started on All Star rods breaking...I'm lucky. I worked in a store for 3 yrs and saw more All Stars come back broken than all other brands combined. And we didn't even sell that many! Thus, I never bought one. Quote
RichF Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 That is correct. I emailed powell with that very question and they confirmed it for me. I just sent in 2 broken shimano crucials. I was told that if the breakage was my fault, they would not be replaced. Of course breakage was my fault. Hope the warranty people at shimano overlook it. As far as I know, Powell is still lifetime. Super User RoLo Posted March 1, 2010 Super User Posted March 1, 2010 I was always under the impression that Loomis offered a Lifetime Warranty. Recently I found out that it didn't apply to MY lifetime, but the lifetime of the ROD! Quote

Yeah, but some dealers will do it over the counter for you. I doubt you are gonna find that on the east coast. I just had a 734C replaced that i broke trying to yank a Bobby's out of the tree above me ;D Quote
ChrisAW Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I was always under the impression that Loomis offered a Lifetime Warranty. Recently I found out that it didn't apply to MY lifetime, but the lifetime of the ROD! Yep. A lot of companies won't mention that a lifetime warranty will only cover that rod as long as it is still an active model. As soon as they stop making or replace that rod with a new model, its no longer warrantied. But if they do warranty whatever it is even if its a discontinued model, they'll probably only replace it once. Thats why I hardly pay attention to warrany information anyways. I might be more inclined to do so if I was playing $300+ for a rod or reel though. But, even throughout my whole life owning mostly cheap stuff, I've never broken a single reel. And, the only rods I've lost were my own fault walking through a door. : Quote

bigfruits Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 i think warranties like loomis' expeditor service are the best way to go. all my broken rods have been my fault. mostly broken rod tips from the car door. i like the piece of mind knowing that if i break any of my loomis rods, $50 will get me a new one shipped to my door. I buy a quality rod and if it breaks I get a new one for FREE, no shipping and no extra charges. SHIMANO RULES!!! Quote

SHIMANO RULES!!! where did i say i had to pay $50 if it was defective? the tip of my rod breaking off in a car door does not mean the rod was defective. shimano will replace a rod you snapped in half for free? if thats true then thats a better warranty than loomis and st. croix have. can you post that info? all i can find is this: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/Warrenty_Services.html i wouldnt have the same peace of mind though. cause id be getting a shimano rod in exchange Quote
midnighthrasher Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 All i will say is that from my experience with rods, shimano has the best replacement warranty available. That said if i slam my rod in a car door i will not try and get a replacement from the manufacturer. In my opinion thats abuse of the system. If its my fault i assume the consequences 100%. But if it is not my fault and it breaks then its nice to know that shimano has a warranty in place that covers me and that they will have a new rod for me as soon as possible free of charge. Quote
