gabes Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Anyone tried them yet? What do you think? Quote
quanjig Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Picked up the flipping pitching 8 footer last week. Only fished with it a couple of times and it feels pretty good. A bit top heavy with a revo stx. Need a little more time with it to give you a good honest review, but to this point not bad for $90! It's got good backbone and a nice bit of tip. Need to whack a terd on it to get some good feedback. Looked at the others(found them at my Dicks) and wouldn't mind a couple of the other length and actions for other tactics. Overall they seem to be a quality product for the price. Just wish it wasn't so undenieably yellow!! Quote
central.PA.bass Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I also just got the 8' Flippin stick paired w/ an STX... i am in grad shcool right now and havent had a chance to try her out.. but if she fishes as good as she looks then look out.. Quote
ALbasser Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 They are very yellow... I checked out a few at my local Dick's. Seemed like a nice rod. I did not like the rubberish grip very much, or the blinding yellow color. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 20, 2009 Super User Posted September 20, 2009 Ask that question in about a year and you'll get the real scoop on them. Quote
240 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I fished with it and to me, the rod has a few pros and cons. The rod I used was the 7'2" DS model. Pros: Looks stylish as if it were a more expensive rod. The action and feel when landing a fish is amazing. The rod flexes so much when you reel in a fish; almost to the point where you think the rod just can't bend anymore, but it still does. Cons: The rod feels like it has no backbone. Because the rod just whips around so easily, it's hard to cast this rod because the tip just whips around so fast. The cast ends up being a line drive because of the whip-like action. Conclusion: Maybe if the rod was MH/Extra Fast, it would make it a little better in my opinion. Quote
JWallin Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Has anyone used the crankbait model yet? I have read some good reviews on the rods at various websites that sell them. Quote
Koop Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I snapped the tip off my avid spinning rod about 2 weeks ago, sent it in and did not receive a replacement in time for my tournament this weekend. Decided to give a the skeet reese rod a shot, bought the 6'11 shakey head / senko rod for dragging tubes. I must say the overall sensitivity and quality is good, I would put it higher overall than the mojo, about the same category as the falcon bucoo or a kistler magnesium. It does have a few very obvious flaws though. 1) It is slightly on the heavy side. 2) The spinning model reel seat screws up from the bottom. I have no idea why they did this or how it got past quality control? The problem is not that it screws up from the bottom, but that when it does, it screws up so far that your hand no longer even sits on the eva foam. Your palm rests on the spiral plastic just above the foam grip. I find this extremely annoying and a huge flaw in the engineering and construction of this rod. Will be fishing it heavily again tomorrow, will let you know any further findings. Quote
mwbrown Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I bought the spinnerbait/worm rod about two weeks ago. Since then i've used it several times, i have it paired with a pro qualifier. The two fit together nicely. imo it felt better than the mojo but the thing is its just so soft the rod bends so much it almost makes a better crankbait rod than spinnerbait. So far its best use is 1/4 tubes. Overall its a light rod comfortable and cheap. I want to buy the pitching/flippin model to compare. Theres def. better rods out there but i recommend this rod. cant beat it for the price Quote

It is strong and i have total control of the fish. the only negative i have found with these rods is the placement of the hook holder... my line tends to get stuck around it every so often.. but that is nothing major and i would recommend this rod to anyone Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted October 13, 2009 Super User Posted October 13, 2009 i played with the rod in the store for a while. it is less tip heavy than the Mojo, there was one model that had to have 12 or 13 guides....lol. i didnt see anything i didnt like, in the store. time will tell. Quote
Koop Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 After another long day working this rod hard I have come to really like it. For the price this rod is very worth while. The only thing I still just can't get over is the bottom twist reel locks. I just dont like holding the reel twist... this isn't a deal breaker but still just annoying. Quote

JWallin Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Mine should be here tomorrow. I will post more on the rod after some use this weekend. Quote

JWallin Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Well I got to use the Crankbait rod that I picked up. I must say that it impresses me more than my GLoomis GL3 crankbait rod. Better casting, sensitivity, and hookups too. I landed a 3 and a half pounder fishing around one of the boat ramps at Cedar Creek Lake this morning with ease not even 30 minutes into fishing. I plan on adding more of these rods to my lineup and phaseing out the others with these. Quote
sal669 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I spent some time today in BPS and handled some of them. They didn't impress me at all. They are heavy, tip heavy, uncomfortable to hold and plain ugly bumble bees . They just look cheap. If I remember corectly the guides don't have inserts. In my opinion it's just one of those "BLING, BLING... GIMME YOUR MONEY" things. I wouldn't allowe one of them on my boat. I bought 2 Techna AV rods a couple weeks ago for about $95 each that would shame the Skeet rods 'till they become raspberry red. And again, it's just my opinion. Quote
Super User Micro Posted October 27, 2009 Super User Posted October 27, 2009 Looked at them at Gander Mountain. They remind me of a bright, fluorescent yellow carrot stick. Pass. Quote
Willzx225 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Sal669 - Keep in mind that the Techna AV's retail for 209-229 so you got them for half price which is a steal and I don't blame you for prefering them over the Tessara's. I am curious about the jerkbait/ topwater rod but will wait until everyone gets some more time on the water with them before I pick one up. I'm sure these rods are good for their price point but only time will tell. Quote

I'm sure these rods are good for their price point but only time will tell. I understand perfectly. Everybody knows (or should) that there is this thing called "year end clearance". Last year we had the Avids, this year the Technas. who knows what will have next year. Great rods for under $100 !!!! Or just a bit over $100, depending where and when you buying. And somebody allways gives a "heads-up" on this forum (and others), so if somebody is in the market for some equipment can get the best bang for their money. It's just mind bogling for me how people chose to spend the same amount of money on something ..."not as good" just because of the looks and a signature. That signature will not make a rod better, and somebody has to pay for it !!! Oh,yeah.....and they are ugly. PS: I apologise if I offended anybody, it was not my intention. Again, just my opinion. Quote
Willzx225 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I could care less about the looks but what I am curious about is how the Tessara's fish since they are "designed" ( I don't know how loosely that can be used) by one of the best anglers to pick up a rod. Certain rods fit certain techniques better. I have always heard good things about Techna AV's but I am also looking for a topwater rod and I like the taper that the Topwater/ Jerbait Tessara has from my limited experience with it in the store. If I were looking for a rod that I needed more sensitivity in then the Techna would be a no brainer. JMHO Quote
mwbrown Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 i got a good deal on the crankbait rod and paired it with a pro qualifier i almost didn't buy this rod but im glad i did the weight of it isn't an issue, it launches a crankbait and is still accurate i love it definitely getting more of these rods.
