Daiwa Advantage bearings in a Exceler?

Will the bearings for the Advantage baitcaster fit in an Exceler? I just got an Exceler it casts great with little to no backlash, it just reels in a little rough, and when casting makes some noise. Would this be a solution to the problem? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I suggest a cleaning/lube/inspection first then mic the bearings to see if there the same size sorry I don't know first hand if they are the same. But a good cleaning and relubing may all you need.

Thanks for the answers so far. The reel is brand new, that is why Im asking about the bearings.  Ill give the cleaning/lubing a shot though.

If the reel is brand new, shouldn't you be dealing with Daiwa Service?  It should fish fine right out of the box.

If the reel is that new it is just breaking in. 

Don't worry about the slight rough feeling when you crank it (gears are just breaking in) or, the bearing noise you hear when casting (usually dry bearing packs).

You can clean the spool bearings and re-oil (one drop of quality oil per) this will stop/cut down the casting noise, then get a solid season of use.

Then get it tuned up...

That makes complete sense to me! Thanks! Ill keep using it and see if it gets better, if not I guess Ill have it professionally serviced(that should solve the problem...)

I never bought a reel that needed "breaking in" to get rid of a rough retrieve.

Me neither.  My experience has been if it starts out rough it just continues to get worse.  I've had as many as 4 identical reels new out of the box at the same time and of them one was rough and got no better as time went on but the rest were slick and did not get rough either.  I quit using the rough one totally.

Had an exceler that had the same problem strait out of the box pulled the spool a couple drops of hot sauce replaced it back the tension knob off an move the abs to 0 moved the spool back and forth as suggested in the set up procedure by  daiwa while tighten the tension knob until the spool has no play in it reset the abs to 5 an like magic it was good to go but still alittle noisy and still is but works well, just my experience if this doesn't work Daiwa Service is pretty dependable give em a call

Yes, give them a call and tell them how you just voided your warranty by using Hot Sauce. :-/

If a reel is unsatisfactory when you buy it, take it back and exchange it ASAP.

Never had a problem with Daiwa's warranty with any type of lube "hot sauce", reel oil, WD-40, 30 wgt motor oil, yeah that really happened one time a fishing buddy of mine bought a reel that was rough and used what he had at the time 30 wgt motor oil to lube it ended up with a mess daiwa still honored the warranty we did clean it up alittle before sending it back though.

I cant take it back anywhere... I bought it on Ebay. Thats why I am asking people about it here.

Was it advertised as being noisy? If it was advertised as new or like new then you could try to sort it out through ebay.

The reel was listed as New in box. I don't know what happened to the reel but for some reason today it was not making noise on the cast and reels pretty smoothly now, I did add some oil here and there, but the first time I put some oil on the bearings, it was still noisy.  I guess through fishing today it worked the oil into the bearings and smoothed everything out.  Thanks to all that have helped.

Just call Daiwa up, and explain the problem.  Why are people so afraid to make a simple phone call?

Im not afraid to make a call, I just wanted to know what I could do myself to remedy the problem, without the hassle of sending off to Daiwa or get professionally serviced.  I dont have a wide assortment of reels like some of you do, I only have 3(2 BC, 1 spinning) I dont want to be out a reel when I want to fish.  Those of you lucky enough to have a whole arsenal of reels and rods dont have to deal with being down a reel like some of us here, you have backups, and backups for the backups. It kinda irks me that some of you that have top of the line gear flaunt it all over bass resource, making the people that cant afford the $300-500+ reels and rods feel bad.  We know you have money, we know you can afford the premium tackle, just don't rub our faces in it.

ib I feel your pain yes some times people fail to realize how fortunate they are and that other people fish the gear they can afford. High end gear is nice but you can catch just as many fish on an ugly stick as a custom made rod ( my grandson proved that one to me). I once asked a question about high end gear and Road Warrior replied saying it was the law of diminishing returns some times you get what you pay for and some times you just pay a lot more money for a something that is just a tiny bit better or the same as what you have all ready. I don't think any one means to rub any thing in your face ,they just forget not everyone makes big bucks. Fish what you can afford and have fun doing it. Lots of luck with your reel issue and hope you can resolve it soon.

I have more than 3 reels, but I don't spend a fortune on gear.  If I can handle the reel I'm buying, then I check it out in the store.  If its mail order, I immediately inspect it out of the box.  If something doesn't seem right, I return it.  I have a buddy with a few Excelers, and they are smooth right out of the box. 

Sounds like your reel may have sat a while, and the oiling worked.  Less is more here, and yes, it does take some time to fully coat the races and balls inside the bearing.

The reason I said to call them is because I've seen new reels with manufacturing defects that were covered under warranty.  Things like a burr on left behind from machining the gears, or a chipped tooth on a gear.  Things happen, and and some can't be resolved with some oil or grease.

Sounds like your reel working well now.  Congrats, and catch a big one with it.

I have the  same one and its been great as well..A friend that works at a top retailer of fishing tackle suggested the same as the gentleman did about letting it break in. However I looked at the manual and where to lube it....I'm not comfortable with that much breakdown of the reel myself. I was told it even takes a little time to cast to its fullest potential...I'm just gonna use the s&*! outta mine and Daiwa will just have to back up their product should it not go right. I did alot of research before I bought it cuz I didnt wanna spend 200. Mind you I did understand I would be giving up some performance...i.e. not a curado..but a great reel to cut teeth on and if taking care of a solid addition to an arsenal..beleive me...I'll let you know about mine..very picky about my gear
