birdley123 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Can someone tell me the best kind of knot to use when tying power pro to its mono backer? Also what about power pro to a leader? Thx. Quote
RandySBreth Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I don't know about it being the "best', but I usually use a back-to-back uni-knot for tying to backing, and a Blood Knot for attaching leaders. If the difference in diameter of leader to superline is really extreme (like 6/20 PP to 20-pound fluoro leader) I use a spider hitch to double the thinner braid before making the Blood Knot. Works for me. Quote
Gangley Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 double uni with the larger diameter making additional wraps around the smaller diameter. Thats how the instructions say to do it if I am not mistaken. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 16, 2010 Super User Posted February 16, 2010 Instructions don't mean crap on the water.... Use an Alberto Knot. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 16, 2010 Super User Posted February 16, 2010 I use a three turn uni-uni knot for the backing and a six turn uni-uni for a leader if applied. Line diameter is not a factor. Quote
basstracker721 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 The latest North American Fisherman episode had this on knot wars. You can go to their website and check them out. There were several. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 16, 2010 Super User Posted February 16, 2010 Uni to uni...at least 6 turns on each side. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 16, 2010 Super User Posted February 16, 2010 For greatly unequal diameter lines. I use it to attach twenty pound fluoro leader to ten pound braid. http://www.netknots.com/html/albright_special.html Quote
topwater.va Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I use the double uni and havent had any problems as of yet. Quote
NewAngler Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Amen to J. Fancho. Albright or the Alberto knot work best. IMO Quote
Crowcommander Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Google the Super 8 knot. Its the best I found and if tied right,it won't twang on your rod eyes as you throw. Tie it about 10 times sitting in front of computer and you'll own it for life. Quote
tennwalkinghorse Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I use the double uni and havent had any problems as of yet. 2X Quote
A.Parris Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I use the Alberto. Never had it fail. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 21, 2010 Super User Posted February 21, 2010 Anglers aren't stupid, and would never tolerate any knot that slipped or failed. The Uni-knot, Albright and Alberto are all perfectly acceptable knots or they'd be loooong gone. The Best knot to tie, is the knot you tie Best. Roger Quote
I.rar Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 i tried the albright on some 6lb cxx leader to 15/4 braid. maybe i didnt tighten it enough or clip the tag ends short enough , but the knot made it through my guides decent at best. Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 55# braid, with 12# fluro leader, uni to uni knot, 6 turns each side..the knot goes through my guides with ease..chinch the knot down real good, I give 3 good tugs, then clip the tags as close as you can. i tried the albright on some 6lb cxx leader to 15/4 braid. maybe i didnt tighten it enough or clip the tag ends short enough , but the knot made it through my guides decent at best.
