I have done tons of research and i believe i have finally decided on a combo to use for everything i need out on the river or lake. Starting with a 6' 6" medium heavy fast shimano compre, with a plfueger patriarch 64. This sound like a good combo..

i love the reel and hate the rod.i would get a bps johnny morris signature series 6-6 mh.if that doesn't float your boat i would get a american rodsmiths team 6-6 rod with the new golf club material grip.

I like your rod choice - I beilieve the Compre is one of the best rods for the money that you can buy. As for the reel I would pair it with a Curado --if you don't want to pay new price there are a lot of the old green Curado 200B models for sale on ebay for reasonable prices.....

Do you need left or right hand reel? TW has Daiwa Fuego left hand reels for $145. This is a $229 reel. I wanted the Revo STX for its drag, but couldn't find one for less than MSRP ($199.99). Above my budget. Couldn't pass on the Fuego. It went out today for a super tune, baco7 bearings, and Carbontex drag upgrade. Budget went all to he$$. :'( :'( On the other hand, I am expecting an already excellent reel (per reviews) to become a great little reel. ;D ;D

The rod I am planning on getting for it happens to be the same Compre you are looking at unless someone can convince me the 7' model is better as an all around rod.

This is basically my first entry into the baitcasting world, and is going to be used for LM bass.

I second this- I just bought a 6'9" MHXF. It is light as a feather and balances like no rod I've ever owned. I'd like a couple more at the 79.99 I paid...
