zaraspook_dylan2 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 What do you guys use when you're fishing with a frog? Mono, fluro, or braid? What pound test? I've been using 50 pound braid and that will never break, but I'm wondering if that's to much. It seems like the bass could see the line a lot more when using a braid like that. Any thoughts? soccplayer07 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I use 50-65lb braid. I fish very heavy slop, pads and grass. I'm never worried about the fishing seeing it due to the cover breaking it up. My hook up ratio has greatly increased due to braid as well. Quote
longhorn_basser Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 i use either 50 or 65lb power pro and have never had a problem with it. usually if you're fishing with a frog, you have enough cover that the visibilty of the line is not an issue. Quote
fishinflip415 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 55 or 65 braid (Suffix or PP) +1 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted February 15, 2010 Super User Posted February 15, 2010 55 or 65 braid (Suffix or PP) +1 X 2 if fishing open water you could go down to 30lb. braid, but for the thick stuff 50 to 65 lb. Quote
erau618 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 Frogs= Braid don't leave home without it! Quote
Taylor Fishin 4 life Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 50 pound braid by power pro Quote

Any thoughts?Dylan I would not use a FC line for any topwater bait - frogs included. Most of the time, I'm fishing a hollow body frog, like a spro frog, in heavy slop and therefore use 65lb braid and a heavy rod. In that situation, i'm not worried about the fish seeing the line. 50lb braid WILL break, trust me! :'( ;D Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted February 15, 2010 Super User Posted February 15, 2010 30 lb. braid for light-to-medium grass and 50 lb. braid for thick mats and grass , power pro or izorline premium spectra .... Quote

zero Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 powerpro is bad go for diawa samurai 12/55 or 14/70 i never had a promblem breaking the line Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 15, 2010 Super User Posted February 15, 2010 powerpro is bad I doubt that at 17 years of age you have anything to offer that qualifies that statement. Yes, Samurai is excellent line, but it doen't mean Power Pro is "bad." There's much worse out there. For frogs (not solid body "toad" baits, like the Ribbit), I use 50 or 65# Power Pro. Quote
basstracker721 Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 50# power pro or Spiderwire Stealth. Most braids will do the trick. I Like Power Pro the best. Quote

Any thoughts?Dylan 50lb breaks, TRUST ME. 65lb braid has broken on me before too, it happens, but it's much stronger. I use 65lb braid for all of my frog fishing and would never go below that. I'm switching to 70lb Daiwa when I can. When you're throwing top water baits on slop, the line isn't an issue at all. Mono and fluoro stretch way too much to throw a hollow body frog. Quote
FishinTN Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Whats your guys take on the newer lines like fireline braid that are round, to improve casting and line lay on the spool? Quote
bobbyc Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 65 lb. Spiderwire Stealth braid. This line can be had in a 125 yard spool at a good price. (good as far as a braided line goes) Quote

barroncooper Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 spiderwire stealth is super strong. but it's not so stealth after a day in stained water. and it's also like throwing winch cable to me. I prefer PP or samurai. with samurai being my fave. and of course in 65#. Quote
