SWMIBASSER Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 So other than the color and the oversize bail wire what is the different between the Pflueger Supreme, and the Supreme XT? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 carbon drag washers.they are both awesome reels and for the money blow away anything any other manufacturer offers. Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Looks like most people don't bother to pay the extra money for the XT Quote
Stasher1 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I've been eyeballin' both of them for a while now, and will probably pick one up in the next couple weeks. It'll probably be the "standard" Supreme because the color is a better match for the St. Croix logo on my Avids and I like the little dimples on the spool around the drag knob. Silly, I know. Quote

It's funny I've given guys a hard time about choosing based on appearance. But I'm really curious what an XT looks like mounted on a rod. Heck to 'ME' a $375 combo is alot of money so I want to be darn sure I'm happy with all aspects. Quote
Stasher1 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I think you reach a point where the performance of the equipment you're comparing is no longer an issue, so the only thing left to do is pick the one that you find the most aesthetically appealing. The XT would probably look great mounted on a St. Croix LTB, but the standard Supreme would look better on an Avid. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 7, 2010 Super User Posted February 7, 2010 xt on a johnny morris signature series. Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Well I found a deal I couldn't refuse. New Pflueger Supreme 8030 for $73.99 with free shipping. I wanted to try the XT, but I've been very happy with the regular supreme, and I'm not a big fan of the Gold/yellow color. I don't hate it, but it's not my favorite. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I have the Pflueger Supreme 8035 strapped to every one of those G Loomis Rods you are looking for, and they are hard combos to beat. You will like that Supreme (and Congratulations on the deal) Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 xt also has corrosion resistant bearings. Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 Thanks LuckyCraftMan! There were a few things upgraded on the XT, but in the end I'm happy with the Supreme I already have, so why change? Plus I felt that was a pretty good deal. Not earth shattering but still. And I think I have the rod choice narrowed down to two. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 9, 2010 Super User Posted February 9, 2010 they are both quality reels.enjoy it dude!!! Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 So I got what was supposed to be a NEW reel, and it's plain to see it has been apart. The screws have some of the finish scratched off and the areas around the screws are scratched up and hit with touch up paint. There are about 8 spots on the reel that have tiny touch ups. I'll probably keep it because it was cheaper than retail/new, and because 'I' have to pay shipping back and take a 10% restocking fee.......But it still ticks me off. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 If you payed by credit card....you know what to do. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 that's why i shop bps or cabela's.hope you get the problem fixed.i wouldn't put up with that. Quote

I think I was watching that same reel last night on e-bay ~ I decided to wait until later today to pull the trigger, I just came in just a few minutes ago to pick it up and it was sold - It looked like it was a sweet deal and the only one they had. Sounds like there was a bit of misrepresentation going on. A-Jay Quote
PFangler Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 A-Jay how is that Supreme treating you? I have been holding off on a new Supreme because last year they introduced a new XT version in Japan and it looked HOT. I am trying to attach a photo in the post. Hope it works. I was thinking they would release it here in the US but no luck yet maybe this year. It's a major upgrade for that mustard color if you ask me. Quote

Sorry PF, The Supreme was sold and the seller has not listed another so I do not have that reel, yet. My spinning reels are Quantum pti's and Pflueger Presidents that I've had for a while. The excellent performance and prices of the Pflueger is what prompted me to take a look at the Supreme. A-Jay Quote
