I think I might buy one so I'll let you know :D

My brother uses the BPS reels with mag spool and it is legit. Eliminates line management issues entirely. Longer casts too.

Pflueger web site says the rod they designed to go with the reel has over sized guides to help with cast from the large spool. Also mr 8 graphite blank. The combo sells for 99 bucks sounds like a good buy. Also does any one know if Dick,s would  do special  orders on some thing like this ? Cant let the wife see this come in the mail! Thanks! ;D

So, has anybody bought one yet? I'm this ---->||<---- close to ordering one in the smaller size. I mean, how bad can it be?  The reels on either side of it in their lineup are both solid performers.

So it showed up yesterday afternoon, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It's nice and smooth, in typical Pfluger fashion, but the size has me a bit puzzled.

It's only available in two sizes, a 30 and a 40. I ordered the 30 thinking it would be the best size/weight (8.5 oz) for 6-8# line on a M or ML rod, but it actually seems a bit small for that. The 40 weighs in at a bit over 11 oz., which is too heavy for my needs.

The body appears to be similar in size to a 1500-series Shimano which is cool, but the spool really doesn't seem much wider than the ones on my Symetre 2500FIs.  :-/  I'll have to dig out the calipers and compare the two, but the Arbor's spool is definitely smaller than I was expecting.

For anyone who may be following this or contemplating a Pflueger Arbor, the diameter of the spool on the 30 size is 1.345" and the Shimano Symetre 2500FI stock spool is 1.265"

That's probably not enough of a difference in spool diameter to make the swap worthwhile. It would probably make a good trout reel, though, so I may wind up keeping it anyway.

Also, the body size of the Arbor "30" is very close to the size of a Daiwa Regal 1000Xi. Very, very compact.

Thanks for the info. Like the wind i changed my mind and buying a shimano symetre on RW recommendation. My first shimano! Saving for st.croix rod now. :D:) :) :)

Ah, a man after my own heart. I have one of my Symetres on a 6'8" M/XF Avid, and it really doesn't get much better than that, imho. The other is on a 6'6" M/F Shimano Crucial, and it's also nice, but I find that I just prefer the feel of St. Croix rods in general.

Avid is the one i am saving for.The 7ft. m fast. just can,t  decide on two piece or not? 2 - piece would be a little safer for what i want!? :D

Used the Arbor on and off the combo and it works great. A Pflueger 30 size is smaller than a Shimano 2500. If they made the Arbor in a 35 size it would be a better comparison based on the sizing of traditional reels in Pflueger. If you're fishing fluorocarbon like me its hard to beat. Not only does the larger arbor prevent coils the slower oscillation and short stork of the spool prevents tangles. Smooth reel that can cast a mile.
