I am looking for a new crankbait setup and came along these two rods.  They look like great values.  I will be tossing 1/2 oz spinnerbaits, DT-4s, DT-6s, and occassionally a deeper diver like a Jensen's Hot Lips (1/2 oz lipped crankbait that can hit 16' feet).  Both have limited lifetime warranties.  Powell has a power rating of "3" while Lamiglas is "5" (I don't quite get this numeric system because both rods are listed as Medium Heavy power).  I am leaning towards the Lamiglas.  I cannot find the rods locally so I was hoping the forums would help.  Either rod would be paired up with a Revo S.

I just picked up the Lamiglas Excel glass CB rod Thursday. It is comparable to the Certified Pro S-glass. It is much lighter that the yellow Skeet Reese 705R and a bit lighter than the certified pro. I liked the balance. I threw a 1/2 spinnerbait in the yard only to see how it loads and it handled it very well. I have the CP glass and XCC composite and like that slow parabolic action but the blank is resilient for a glass rod and transmitted the vibration of the willow blades well. Just kidding. I was lucky to find mine because Lamiglas is back ordered on almost every model in the line. Check TW, they should have them before anyone if you have to buy on line. Powell makes a fine rod. I wish I could put my hands on one to compare. PM me if you want more information. :D

I can't comment on the Lamiglas, but I have the Powell 703 Glass and think it's a great rod.  It will cast the smaller cranks like Bandit 100 and 200's a good distance, and easily give you good distance and accuracy with the DT's.  When you get to the lipless cranks and 1/2oz spinnerbaits, you're really gonna love the way that rod handles that weight range.  Nice bend for working the baits and keeping the fish on the line.

Hitchhiker,

I originally was going to buy the Powell rod and then discovered the Lamiglas Excel rod.  I like that the Powell has Fuji guides but read good things about the Lamiglas rod blank.  Tough decision.

Since the water doesn't melt up in MN for a couple of more months, I can wait and see what everyone thinks of the new Excel rods.
