I was originally looking at getting the pflueger patriarch but i just cant seem to part with the money. What i was wondering is if it would be a good buy for me, or if the president might be better for the money. Thanks

they are both great reels and both great values.the patriarch has the titanium deposition finish.it's close to indestructable and will look good far longer than any reel without it.it also has the dual braking system which is fantastic.the president has just centrifugal brakes.the dual system works better than any other made imho.if in any way you can afford it i'd get the patriarch.if you can't then the president is a great choice and a reel to be proud of.

I have the Patriarch and absolutely love it, but I very rarely use the magnetic brake. If you don't need the mag brake, or aren't concerned with the durability of the reel's finish, save yourself some $$ and pick up a President. Either way, do yourself a favor and buy it on Ebay. You should be able to find a Patriarch for sale at the President's price.

the mag brake comes in handy throwing spinnerbaits into a high wind.normally i don't use it but under those conditions it's nice to just dial it in a bit.it can make spinnerbait fishing on a windy day a real pleasure.
