BPS rods? How do they perform?

Even at full price the J/M Elite is a great rod. Sensitivity is great, and is really light weight.

It only has a one year warranty, but most other rods are going to cost you another $50 to get a replacement with their "lifetime" warranty. (Loomis, St Croix)

and since i don't break rods a lot it works out far cheaper for just as good a rod imho!!!

I think the rods are OK, it is the warranties I have issues with.  I have had the minimum wage front line employees get pissy when I broke one and tried to trade it in without a receipt.  They have always replaced them out of stock (3 different times over the past 6 years), but the return manager always had to get involved and it took 30 or 40 minutes before they caved.

These days, anything I buy at Bass Pro, I put on my Bass Pro credit card and then they have the paper trail.  I don't use that card for anything else.  Over the past two years, that has made life a little easier.

Their warranty (and pretty much all warranties) clearly states you must have a receipt.  I realize nobody likes feeling hassled, but I'd think you'd be thrilled they violated their procedure to get you a new rod when they clearly didn't have to.  :-?

I had the same experiences with BPS warranties; HOWEVER, the last 5 rods I've purchased I've also bought the Gear Guard Protection. I've returned two rods since - one KVD rod (which broke in half on a 6# Larry hookset - still landed him though) and one RC sig series which I just didn't like. No questions asked and I was done in 2 minutes. I returned both rods within a couple weeks of purchasing them. BPS didn't make me call the 1-800 Gear Guard Warranty folks which was nice.

Not sure what all of the "wouldn't buy them at normal price" talk is about.  I don't think thats the question.  He asked how they perform.  There alot of people who would consider all bigger name rod brands to be highly over priced. 

They arn't a bad rod at all.  Sure, maybe not as good as some high end Loomis but they will hold up just as well.  Most have decent Fuji eyelets (atleast I think they still do) and the same materials that comprise 90% of all other rods.  Its all in what feels good to you.  There are plenty of people who could outfish anyone with a Loomis with  $10 walmart pole... it dosn't matter really.  Get what you like at the price you can afford.  I have one BPS rod, a Johnny Morris, and honestly it fishes just as well as any other rod I've owned.  Good sensitivity and great backbone when needed.

But since everyone else brought it up.. definately wait around to get one from them, they put them on sale all of the time and you can get a good deal.

Alright, so I bought a Carbonlite last month. I was so excited to fish it because it felt so great in my hand. First trip out, no fish on it and it snapped in half while casting a 3/8 oz Spinnerbait. Piece of junk if you ask me. I'm driving back up to BPS this weekend and will get a new rod or my money back!!

That rod must have been a dud.  I love my carbonlite.  It feels awesome.  Light weight, ultra sensitive and plenty of backbone.  I like it better than my St Croix rods.  It is actually my favorite rod right now out of all my rods.
