Madd Lunacy Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano. Bought a Quantam Energy B.C. once and it was the worst reel I have ever used. Sold it to my buddy and bought a Cuardo ;D Quote

Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 ABU GARCIA !!!! the reels are awesome ( i have the SX , INSHORE , and the TORO 51 ) and their customer service is fantastic , just dealt with them trying to get all the parts i need , i am putting a SKEET REESE handle on my high speed SX , they went out of their way to make sure i got taken care of and when parts were not shipped , they gave them to me free and priority shipped them to me at no cost . customer service is why i will always use ABU GARCIA reels Quote
NorCalFishinguru Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Hmmmm, daiwa for bc, pflueger for spinning but thats definately open for change. If i had to pick just one reel company for the rest of my life itd probably be shimano Quote
Madd Lunacy Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano. Bought a Quantam Energy B.C. once and it was the worst reel I have ever used. Sold it to my buddy and bought a Cuardo ;D Haha does he like it? It's a huge step up from what he usually fishes with which was a pinnacle b.c. but he says he likes it and I guess thats all that counts. Since I started fishing and was able to buy my own gear I have always used shimano. I'm sure Quantum has some good stuff, but I don't think I will ever buy one again. ;D Quote
Elite Image Fishing Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano. I, like you tried virtually every company under the sun and have been very pleased with the Shimano Reels. I have 3 of Citica 200e, 1 Calcutta, 1 Corsair, and a Stradic Spinner among others. Great reels. Quote

I've got a curado E7 and absolutely love that reel to death... i also really like the Abu Garcia STX i've got two of those also... Quote
A-Rob Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano all the way. Had a few problems with other brands, most notable being quantum baitcaster I dished out over 100 bucks for and it wouldn't click into gear, it'd go into 'neutral'. So I returned that pretty quick, got another shimano....never had a problem. Quote
Koop Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Would not trade my STX's for 200e's. Abu Garcia is my choice. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano - wouldn't know about their customer service - never broke one. Quote
ghost_207 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano(low profile) and Abu(round baitcasting). Quote
fishinflip415 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano hands down. I did get a new model premier to try and have to say I was impressed, but it's still not in the league as the core 50...! 8-) Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 pflueger patriarch Quote
Boogey Man Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 My favorite was Abu Garcia before they were bought out by Pure Fishing. Now it would have to be Shimano with Quantum coming in second. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I own reels under 6 different brand names. Some are over 25 years old and still in weekly use. Before you try to pick a brand, think of it this way. Performance and Features to cost ratio, multplied by parts and service. I will not bash a brand unless they misrepresent their product BUT I have found one brand that I still like has demonstrated a poor service response. That influenced me to move to another brand that "out scored" this brand. I am luckier than most in that my local tackle dealer stands behind what they sell to the Nth degree. They also get a substantial portion of my overtime check. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano. Bought a Quantam Energy B.C. once and it was the worst reel I have ever used. Sold it to my buddy and bought a Cuardo ;D Haha does he like it? A better question would be, "Is he still your buddy?" Quote
dead eye Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 For the last 18 to 20 years I have been a fan of the Lews speedspool reels and then the Browning lews. This year I decided to retool and go with the Revo S. I now own 4 new ones and 1 used that I bought from the flea market here on Bass Fishing Resource. For the money I feel this to be an outstanding midrange choice. Quote
tracker01 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Shimano for baitcasters and Daiwa for spinners. Quote
sal669 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I owned reels from 8 different companies and in the last 5-6 years I kinda gravitated toward Daiwa. I wouldn't know about their customer service because i never needed it. Second choice would be Shimano Quote
