Pa Angler Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 The best all time lure is a plastic worm. If talking only of Bass then the plastic worm is #1 BUT...... if talking of an all around bait for all species then I would have to say the original Rapala floater or Shad Rap comes in at #1. Super User senile1 Posted December 18, 2006 Super User Posted December 18, 2006 SOFT PLASTIC: Culprit Original Worm HARD PLUG: Rapala Original Floater Roger Hmmm . . . . you took the words right out of my mouth, though the senko type worms are up there too. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 It would have to be the plastic worm or the Rapala Original Floater. Quote
pete s Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 in florida, a 7 1/2 in culprit type worm( fla grape green flake(junebug),and red shad/green flake during the spawn). notice i said fla grape,it is dark grape but held up to the sunlight it has a violet hue. not all black grape are the same. color tried and proven in florida waters. in earlier days, this was a top secret formula that worm manufacturers held dearly;and would not disclose to anyone. in cold water, use same colors with small straight tail worms. (remember you can fish a worm too fast but you cant fish it too slow in cold water, and this applies anytime the fishing is slow) Quote
boondocks Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 He never specifically said the best BASS lure, but maybe thats what he meant. If he means the best lure of any kind of fish ever, I'd have to say the MEPPS spinner, then the original floating RAPALA. If he's talking bass, I'll bet its the plastic worm. Quote
jomatty Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 senko and jig n pig. thats the two that have influenced my fishing the most. Quote
George Welcome Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 "Studies have proven that the plastic worm is the only lure made that a BASS CANNOT REMEMBER! That is, a bass will continue to strike a worm even after repeated catches, whereas a bass will "turn off" to other lures, spinner baits and crank baits etc. after wearing them out on them. That's why you cannot continue to catch them on your honey hole with the same lure over and over. Bass will stop eating that which will eradicate them. Not true with the plastic worm, however. Although we all know bass will prefer a different bait at different times (i.e. "the pattern") you can always go back to the worm to catch them." The above statements are absolute BS! The best for the moment is the one that you are casting and catching with. The plastic has proven to be the best over time because it is the most thrown over time: for me that means the best of the best is the Senko. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 19, 2006 Super User Posted December 19, 2006 So George you don't think a Senko would fall under the plastic worm category? Quote
George Welcome Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 "The plastic has proven to be the best over time because it is the most thrown over time: for me that means the best of the best is the Senko." Can't say it any plainer than that. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 19, 2006 Super User Posted December 19, 2006 Plastics have certainly won its share of money and can be rigged for any conditions or situation. Matt. Quote
danbowhntr Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 i would have to say the "Slug-Go" if i could only have one lure the "slug-go" would be it. it can be fished top to bottom and with the injured minnow action it can't be beat!! ;D Quote
BlakeInOH Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 5" Junebug Senko. And while we're at it, hell, why not the trusty Chatterbait? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Manns Jelly worm. It might not be the best now but it started a revolution years ago. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 5in. Senko (preferably watermelon) Quote
0119 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Wow no spoons! Zara Spooks! No Lucky Crafts! I vote for a Sammy. No soft plastics cause they are short lived quasi disposable. The best lure would have to have a sense of long term durability, like George Perry catching the record on his one and only lure. Quote
Lard_Bass Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Check out this list: http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/photogallery/article/0,13355,1179845,00.html I am a fan of the Zoom and Senko Worms and the Rebel Pop-R. Quote
Jnamo Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 The best- Senko style worms (I prefer the Yum Dinger). My favorite to use would be the spinnerbait. I prefer a Quad Shad. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 When all else fails, I throw a shaky rig with a green pumpkin zoom finesse worm. It will catch fish when nothing else will. Quote

jayhawkfishin Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Mepps Spinner Everyone has used one, it the most basic lure but it catches fish. Quote
mudcatwilly Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 I think the Senko changed the sport. Quote
tallydude Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Even though I don't use them, I gotta say a plastic worm. More bass have been caught on that one lure than any other. Quote
