So I just decided I "need" another baitcaster setup. I love my current do all baitcaster but I'm looking for a flip/pitch specific reel.

Anyone have any reviews for the US reel supercaster or have any other suggestions for a flipping reel?

Shimano Castaic 200SF

They are built for flipping and pitching, and can be had for $80-140. I think that there are a few in the flea market now, at least for now, because I am looking hard at one now.

I would say that a good solid reel with a smooth drag, and heavy gearset would be a good requirement. I currently use a Curado 200E7 for flipping and it has been working perfectally for a while now, but I have heard enough good things about the castaic to give it a try.

The Castaic makes a good flipping reel, because of the instagage system. The reel does not need to be engaged by turning the handle, but by releasing the thumb-bar which allows you to set the hook quicker if a fish hits the lure on the way down.

Its simply a matter of giving you a faster reaction, because you are using a 1oz weight and it hits the bottom in about 1 seconds and you need to be able to react fast enough to stick them.

If I'm not mistaken the Castic thumbar is two way:  mash down and you get free spool and push forward and the reel engages.  What you discribe is the flipping switch set up on morst other reels.  When the Flipping switch is on, simply mashing the thumbar engages and disengages the reel.

I think idea reel would have a heavy set of gears, solid construction, and a HEAVY drag.  Most flipping is done with heavy line be it mono or braid.  I use 50 lb braid. And the drag locked down.

For shimano:  If you could cross the old Brushbuster with a smaller Curado.   You would have it.

If I were buying I would look hard at a Revo. Gears, Solid, and Drag.
