Fat-G Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I need to get a spinning rod, but I wanted to get some opinions here first. I know it will be a Clarus, but I'm not sure which length/power/action to get. It will be used for senkos, weightless trickworms, shakey heads, and an occasional drop-shot. The more I think about it, the 6'6" MXF would probably be the best option, but I keep thinking I should get the 6'6" MHF to get better hooksets. Which would you choose? Quote
CG Angler Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I do the same style and I use my Shimano reels (Sahara & Symetre) on a BPS Bionic Blades 6'6"/Med/Fast. Quote
Jake. Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I would go with the 6'8" MXF. The extra fast tip would be good for finesse baits, and a medium power rod is better suited for the lures you mentioned. A heavier rod doesn't always equal better hooksets. Quote
Nine Miler Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 I do the same style and I use my Shimano reels (Sahara & Symetre) on a BPS Bionic Blades 6'6"/Med/Fast. I have a few Sahara 2500/6'6" MHF Bionic Blade outfits, and I think they are great for the price. I fish senkos on them, but they will handle light jigs and spinnerbaits. I bought them as combos at BPS for about $80 a piece on sale. It was almost like buying the reels and getting the rods free. The rods turned out to be better than I thought they would be. Quote
spropro Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Just got back from Bass Pro Shop and was looking for the same rod. I agree with Jake. Casting the 1/8-1/4 baits is going to require you generate alot of rod speed over a longer length of the rod. Rods that I found could do the job were: New Berkley Lighting, 7' M BPS Tourney, 7'M BPS Extreme, 7'MF St. Croix Mojo 7'M St. Croix Premier, 7'ML The Premier felt great in the hand, light, but with a MF-F action at the tip to allow the light baits to load the rod for a long cast. Didnt, feel the need to handle the more expensive rods (>$120) since the last three would more than do the job. Quote
