NBR Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 In late 2008 I found a pretty large quantity of this line on sale at Wal-Mart for $1.00 per spool, so I bought several spoolsl. I didn't get to fish much last year and I'm wondering if those who have used the line would comment on it. I have spools with 6#, 8#, 10# and maybe some other. I could put it on spinning or baitcasting outfits. I will say it seems a bit stiff to me which propmted this question. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 Yes, it 's stiffer than nylon but not that bad as long as you keep it in low diameter, go above 12 lb test and .... you really need to fish with a slinky ? :-? What 's so good about it ? man it 's ridiculously strong for such a thin diameter, also it 's very resistant to abrassion and quite dense so it transmits vibrations better. 6 & 8 lbs are great for spinning reels. bcody Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 It is very good line... But my previous experiences with that line has taught me a few things. The spools you bought from wal-mart is still good line, as I have used it before. But, I may be wrong, but wal-mart never offered hybrid in a "clear" color. It was always green or smoke. In my opinion, the clear vs the smoke/green are 2 different lines. The smoke/green hybrid doesn't perform the way the clear does. You should try and find some of the clear and see for yourself. But at a $1 a spool. You cant go wrong. The "clear" 12# hybrid is one of my all time favorite lines ever and the spools at wal-mart turned me onto it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 Hmm... I wonder how the coloration could effect performance? I have used all three colors without noticing anything other than how they blend with different water clarity and color. For clear water, I think green blends best. Stained water, purple smoke. White looks nice on silver reels! 8-) Quote

I'm sure age has to play a part in it at sometime.?.? Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Green or clear..all works the same for me. Raul nailed the reason why YoZuri line is our choice. Quote
JacobK Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 i got a spool of 15lb ultra soft for my casting reel, think that'll cause any problems? i don't really want a slinky on my hands ;D Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Dunno..12 is the heaviest I've used, and it was more managable then the 100% fluro, I have on now. BTW, this is w/o any line conditioner. My guess is the 15 will be fine. i got a spool of 15lb ultra soft for my casting reel, think that'll cause any problems? i don't really want a slinky on my hands ;D Quote

Super User Raul Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 I have no experience with Ultrasoft so I can 't comment on it, the only place I can find it is at Cabela 's and Cabela 's normally has nothing I want so I don 't purchase there. But according to RW the plasticity properties between both lines are different and while one is a slinky the other one isn 't. I have to say that even though I like Hybrid I still prefer nylon most of the time, but when you gotta do what you gotta do and you know nylon won 't cut it, it 's Hybrid or CXX. It 's a matter of what I want, to slice submerged timber or to uproot it. ;D Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 My experience is with clear #6 and #8 and I like it. It doesn't seem too stiff in comparison to some other lines I have used. What a deal @ a buck a spool. Luckee Quote
jeosbo01 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I would say that I love the line overall. Use the 6 or 8 pound on your spinning gear unless you have some large caliber reels (I use 12 on my BPS Pro Qualifier size 4000 with no problems). I really think it is superior to mono and doesn't have some of the negative properties of fluoro...it is strong, can be used top water (sinks, but not like fluoro) or under, and is pretty abrasion resistant. Again, I would say all that but instead I'll say...the line is junk, you should send me all the spools of it for $1 each and I will safely "dispose" of it for you Quote
