fishin4ever Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Hello to all, while I recently found out that it's possible to upgrade bearing inside a reel....I wanted to know if it's possible to upgrade or have the gear ratios CHANGED. If so can you please post a website or contact information. Thanks to anybody that replies to this post....tight lines. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Gear ratio changes can be made in certain circumstances. PM, call the number in our ad or go to http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/home Thanks, Mike Quote
ksbasser Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 If your reel was offered in different gear ratio sizes, then you can order a different size pinion and main gear from the customer service dept. of the reel company. Just swap them out and your done. Quote
fishin4ever Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Thanks guys and I'm talking about that pass pro shops carbon lite casting reel. It only comes in one gear ratio. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 3, 2010 Super User Posted February 3, 2010 Just get a reel with the retrieve speed you want. Quote
21farms Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 sometimes it's more than just the main gear and the pinion gear. as the main gears for different ratios are different diameters, the key washer(s) and the drag washer(s) should be sized to match, especially if the key washers are eared. you can get away with reusing the key and drag washers from a lower ratio gearset when going to a higher ratio (although you lose some surface contact area and, presumably, some drag force) but not the other way around. if the key washers are eared, that should definitely be changed. SWMIBASSER Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Quote Thanks guys and I'm talking about that pass pro shops carbon lite casting reel. It only comes in one gear ratio. I'm about 95% here. It's the same design as the Pro Qualifier so the below should work. But I've not done it myself. A Pflueger patriarch has a Duralumin gear set in 7.1.1 This will make for a faster reel without increasing weight. Which you don't want to do as that is one of the key features of that reel. If you don't mind increasing the weight the 5.2.1 and 4.7.1 from the Pro Qualifier should swap right in. When swapping from Duralumin gears which you have in that reel, to brass gears, you WILL increase the weight quite a bit. The drag washers regardless of ratio should be the same. I would have to double check part numbers but I'm pretty sure a Revo uses the same washer regardless of ratio. I believe the BPS reels do as well. Quote
fishin4ever Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Thanks swimbasser, i just might have to check into the pro quailifer Quote
