Ineedanewscreenname20170204 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm looking for a new jig/trig rod for primarily 1/4 to 3/8 with an occassional 1/2 oz jig. I like the G Loomis mbr IMX series rods quite a bit but need some advice on exact models. Not too heavy cover - just some laydowns and rocks, no weeds/grass to speak of. What power (3 or 4) and what length is my quandry... I'd love a GLX but can't afford the divorce... Thanks, Bryan Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 I have the IMX MBR in 844C and 843C. I use the 843C for jigs up to 1/8 to 3/8 oz and 844C for 1/2 to 1 oz. The 844C is way too stiff for my liking on anything under 1/2. Quote
Bronzefly Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'd also go with the MBR 843C for your intended purposes. I like the 844 better for 1/2 oz. stuff, but if it's occasional, the 843 will be just fine. The 843 also makes a great buzzbait/spinnerbait rod 8-) Quote
fathom Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 for 3/8 and above, i actually prefer the 844 over the 843. that said, the 843 will handle the occasional 1/2 better than the 844 will handle the occasional 1/4. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 My first G Loomis was the IMX MBR843. Very nice rod and should serve you well. If you look around, you can find a good deal on this rod. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 http://products.gloomis.com/gl/products/family.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032711&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181201&bmUID=1265071893089 The BCR 853 is a very nice rod, I have two of them. I would highly reccomend this rod or the next size bigger. The GLX model is a MUST when it comes to worming. You are using this rod as a "technique" specific rod where sensitivity gives you the edge. I have the MBR rods and sold most of them. IMO, they are good "all purpose" rods to get you started. Don't settle when it comes to t-rig or c-rig plastics. Get the GLX, even if you have to save the extra 100 bucks over a month or two. Save and get the GLX. Quote
repper Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 i agree with the 3 power for what you stated. and i agree that if you can manage it the BCR GLX rods will be the best choice for worms/jigs in the weights you stated. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 The IMX MBR844C is my suggestion. With a little patience you should be able to find one around $175. A comparable deal on a GLX is going to be $250 or so. Good luck! 8-) Quote

BMoore Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I like the 3 power for what you are throwing unless there is more cover. IMO if you get a loomis get the glx if at all possible. mbr843 or bcr853. Quote
Ineedanewscreenname20170204 Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 Thanks for all the advice. I decided to go with 2 IMXs (mbr783c, mbr784c). I found a deal I couldn't pass up even though I marginally prefer 7 ft rods in general. These are mostly for closer pinpoint casts to shoreline cover. Someday when my skill catches up to the equipment I may have to upgrade to the GLX - until then I'm sure I'll like the IMX rods and the other lesser rods in my arsenal. Quote
