NewKidInTown Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Falcon=BuCooBPS=Carbonlite St. Croix=Mojo Any info on them would be a help! I wouldn't touch anything with the BPS name on it,reels included.BPS stuff is all made in China. The Mojo's are decent rods,MADE IN USA, a bit ill balanced but thats to be expected at the price point. It has the Fuji Reel Seat, but not Fuji guides,Batson I believe. The BuCoo has EVA grips which I don't personally like, but thats subjective, and is also MADE IN USA.Probably an Aluminum Oxide Fuji Guide. St. Croix of course is a good company,so is Falcon,,kind of a toss up,one is probably no better than the other. Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 id personally choose the cumara from shimano but with what you listed i would go with st.croix Quote
0119 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I do believe the Mojo is made in Mexico not the u.s. But it is still a great rod though many are tip heavy. Its well built. Quote
shootermcbob Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have and fish with a st. croix mojo spinning rod. I have it paired with a shimano symetre reel and like the combo very much. I bought the rod used and used it last summer...no problems. I have no experience with the other two rods you listed. Quote

All the "upper" BPS products are very good. Some made buy Pflueger. The Johhny Morris, Pro Qualifier, and Extreme lines seem to be good stuff. Quote
Ern Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I would have to say the BPS rod. I just like the looks of it. The Mojo Rod is a Joke in my book. And I love St Croix rods. I just think the balance is off and the rod has the same blank as the MUCH CHEAPER Triumph. Lots of folks like'em. I dont. I have a friend that got a Premier on E-bite that had been modified to split grip. Best $40 he spent. The rod is actually balanced and fishes Great. The Falcon I know nothing about. But the BPS is on sale and cheaper than the Triumph I mentioned. Quote
OIFBasser Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I thought the Mojo was made with the Premier blank. I had a Bucoo baitcast rod, and for the price it was great. You should really check out the Shimano Compre which is in the same price range. I have two Compre spinning rods, and for $100-110 you can't go wrong. I played with the Carbon Lite rods and wasn't impressed at all. Slap a Symetre 2500 on it and you will be set. I'd rank these rods as 1. Shimano Compre 2. Falcon Bucoo 3. Mojo 4. BPS Quote
Ern Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I thought the Mojo was made with the Premier blank. Yes. From there website. The Triumph, Premier, and Mojo are all three Graphite II. Same blanks. Components are different. Quote

zero limit Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have a mojo no complaints. try the flea market. or ebay you can get new or used rods at half price Quote
-nick- Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have a mojo no complaints. try the flea market. or ebay you can get new or used rods at half price I have a mojo for texas rigs and it is tip heavy but not anything that really bothers me. I love fishing with it though. I don't think I'll get another one just because I'm going to try and upgrade all my rods. But if I were to get another rod in the 100 dollar rod I would probably get the BuCoo or Carbonlite, or wait for the new 100 dollar Loomis rod. The Carbonlite feels really nice in hand. Quote
-nick- Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 And now after Islandbass's first impressions with the Lamiglass Excel I would look into those some too. Quote
trevor Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I think that the Mojos are made in Mexico, not USA. From what I hear, and I haven't actually used any of these reels, people really like the Bucoo's. But the St.Croixs probably are sweet. I have an old St.Croix and LOVE it. Super User bilgerat Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 The St. Croix Triumph is an excellent rod at that price range, plus the five year warranty is a nice incentive. I have a 6' 6" spinning model going on 4 years old and I like it a lot. Obviously not as light and sensitive as my Avid, but not bad at all. Another thing to consider is the Triumph has been around a while, the ones you're looking at are all new models without a track record. Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I had an oppurtunity to check out the Skeet Reese rods, Falcon Bucu, Vendetta, and Carbonlite rods last weekend. IMO, you NEED to see the rods for yourself before buying. The reviews these rods get are pretty accurate. For casting rods. ALL of them in the spinning model were much heavier and not balanced as well as the casting model. Quote

Obviously not as light and sensitive as my Avid, but not bad at all.Another thing to consider is the Triumph has been around a while, the ones you're looking at are all new models without a track record. X2 I have a 6'6" M Triumph two-piece spinning rod that I keep in the car/truck pretty much all the time. It's not as sensitive as my Crucial or Avids, but surprisingly sensitive for the price. It also has a full cork grip, which I prefer to the current trend of foam/cork split grip rods. As a matter of fact, I'm currently in the market for a new ML spinning rod for wading small local streams and will most likely pick up another Triumph. My local DSG has a bunch of them in stock at any give time, but the majority of them are the older China-made models. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm going to hold out for a newer Mexican model. The Shimano Compre might not be a bad choice in that price range. They have a great warranty, are priced right, and sport quality components. I haven't fished with one, but it gets favorable reviews from most owners. I'd pass on the Voltaeus that was mentioned a couple posts back. It appears to be Shimano's answer to the Ugly Stick Lite, and seems just as "whippy" to me. IIRC, it's also sporting the flimsy all-metal guides that I despise. Quote
trevor Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I have a Voltaeus and love it, its not heavy and its very sensitive. If by "whippy" you mean not a fast action, then yes, but it casts FAR and VERY accurate. Yall prob wont believe this, but this summer i engaged in a 1 and a half hr fight with a cownose ray using my voltaeus meduim spinning. I caught it by accident while tog fishing. The rod was doubled over, and held up perfectly. About those guides - I stepped on one and smashed it flat. Simply bent it back. With a lifetime warranty, that rod is one of the best $40 bucks ive ever spent. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 2, 2010 Super User Posted February 2, 2010 You should buy them all. After a while, you'll know which one you like. Trade the others or let them become borrower rods. Don't stop there. Buy more rods. Make all your rods compete for your attention. When you are loading up your fishing truck, all your rods will scream at you, "PUT ME IN, COACH!" Quote
