Super User A-Jay Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 As some spinning reels come with an extra spool to accommodate changing line test or type, I'm wondering does anyone do the same thing with casting reels? I'm considering picking up a few extra spools for certain casting reels so I could use the same set-ups for different applications; when wanting to switch from say mono or fluorocarbon to braid etc. Now a days the side plates just slide open and the spools pop right out. I think it would help diversify my modest rod/reel arsenal without adding more rigs (which I don't have the the room for in the Old Town). A-Jay Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 When I used to have less than a dozen rigs, I did that for several reels. I got lazy and just got more rigs. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 Yep, for instance I have three spools for flipping stick - one with 50# braid, one with 65# braid, and one with 30# fluoro. Quote

Right - Flipping was the first thing that started me thinking about this. I think I'll pick up a few spools and give this a shot. Thanks A-Jay Quote
smbrule Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I used to purchase extra spools but new ones are somewhat expensive. Now I look for a used reel with the spool I want and go that route. Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 I also carry a few extra spools... one with braid and two with lighter mono. (it helps having several reels of the same model that way you have multiple options. Quote
