You may want to post this in the Rod, Reel, and Line forum...mod's will likely move it anyways.

Sorry don't have an answer to your ?

I think you just turned on that little switch on the back/bottom of the reel which allows for backreeling. flip that switch and I think it will be ok.

Sounds like the clutch is going out or you got oil in it.  Either would explain slipping.

May be able to clean the clutch.  Never tried.

Check shimano to see if they have it available if you want to keep the reel.  Or check for parts, either in a repair shop or a reel from a fleamarket or E-bite.

Having a favortie reel die is like loosing a best friend.

The reel isn't dead just needs to be repaired.  Take it to an expert, shouldn't cost too much.

You can even do it yourself.  There is a pic by pic instructional page on shimano's site on how to replace it.  Might be hard to find the part though, seems like they've run out of parts on recent discontinued models pretty quickly these days.   There's a list of models with no available parts on the site too.

If you have never worked a spinning reel I would advise not starting now.

The one-way bearing pack behind the rotor, has gotten dirty and the old oil need to cleaned out and re-lubed properly.

I would suggest that you look in the local yellow pages for a tackle shop with service or a site sponsor....

There is a problem with the roller clutch assembly.  Whether its too much grease or oil, broken springs or corroded rollers is anyone's guess.  Either send it to a reel repair shop, or Shimano themselves to have it properly repaired.

yea i have been cleaning my reels since i was 9, but just have never had this happen to me i think i might brake it open tonight

Hey Taylor,

A lot of things have changed in the last 5 years.. :D

If you have been doing your own reels that long then when you get the rotor off of this one read what it says on the one-way bearing....

"No Grease" meaning we now no longer lubricate the one-way on spinning reels that is the reason why it is letting go under pressure. You clean um but leave them dry or just an oil wet Q-tip swab on the pins....

Tight Lines!!
