VAfishin4me Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I saw these reels at Japan tackle and they're supposed to be souped-up Pixies. Doubt they will ever hit the American market, but what do you guys think? http://www.japantackle.com/Daiwa_reels/Daiwa_PX68.htm Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 i like. would be hard to not just pull the trigger on a Steez though. Quote
VAfishin4me Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 I was thinking that also, but a guess it offers a more specific technique than the Steez Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 Very nice reel. Quote
Jake. Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 The pictures came out about a month ago. It looks very nice. Quote
Bronzefly Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Looks pretty sharp! Performance wise, I'm very curious if it will offer any real advantages over a Pixzilla aside from the higher gear ratio... time will tell! Quote
VAfishin4me Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 Any of you tackle junkies planning on getting one in April? Quote
UBA Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That is sweet! But at that price range I would have to go with the Steez. Quote
Jake. Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That is sweet! But at that price range I would have to go with the Steez. The Pixy isn't intended to compete with the Steez. It's a finesse reel made to throw baits less than 1/4 ounce. Quote

Bronzefly Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 i always assumed a Steez would do the same thing a Pixy would do. is that not correct? No - a steez and a pixy/pixzilla are very different reels. As Jake stated, the pixy was designed as a finesse fishing reel. The Steez is designed as an all purpose bass fishing reel with different intended purposes for the 103 and 100 models. The steez will not perform as well as a pixy with very light lures, lines, and rods. As well, the pixy will not perform as well as a steez with a 3/8 oz jig, 12lb line and a MH rod. Quote

Yep, that's what I meant by the Pixy serves more specific techniques than the Steez, but still I think it would be hard for most people to buy this new Pixy over a Steez, because only anglers looking for very high-performing finesse reels would want this. Most anglers look for versatile reels, but then again I wouldn't say the average angler would buy this reel. I think it would be interesting to see how many people on this site buy JDM reels. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 1, 2010 Super User Posted February 1, 2010 Any of you tackle junkies planning on getting one in April? Uhhhh :-?..... nope. Don 't see any particular reason to get one, specially after witnessing yesterday what my one of my Pixies was capable of doing, casting an unweighted 3" dinger 50 yards away against a strong wind. 8-) Quote
