I need a new spinning reel and have sol casters and have heard great things about the spinning reels, but the new ci4 looks sweet, can anyone give me an opinion on either? If you have any other suggestions that would be helpful as well.  Thanks

Everyone I know that has purchased the new

Stradic 2500CI4 is impressed. My initial reaction

is that the reel seems comparable to the Stella

2500FD at about 1/3 the cost!

I can't talk to the Sol, but I absolutely love my 2500 CI4.  Married up to a St. Croix Avid, the whole thing weighs less that some reels I've owned.  I feel like I can fish this all day without getting worn out.

I love my 2500 CI4.  I hardly pick up another reel since I got it.  It is fluid smooth compared to Daiwas Tierra and Coastal series'.

Are you serious? I had my eyes set on the Tierra after playing with it at BPS. That reel for $140 CAD was smoother than anything else that had there. I didn't get a chance to try the CI4, but now I'm interested how this reels feels like.

When it comes to spinning reels...Daiwa gets my vote....Sorry Shimano!

I've been using my Tierra for 2 years...Trust me,it's still as smooth the day i got it.

I've got the tierra and now a fuego......The sol is next for me. ;D

This is a little irresponsible IMHO. There is no comparison between a carbon stradic and one of the finest reels ever made. The stella is a far superior reel in every way and the new stradic's are nice just not even close to the same ballpark. However for 200 or less this might be the best reel you can purchase. Daiwa advantage is another nice reel in that range as well........

Your right its not fair......to compare brand new first year run technology with a reel not only out for a few years but on the cusp of being replaced.  Both Sols won a years reprieve but are due to be replaced by the next.  That being said it'll only be a year or so before parts arent available.  Daiwa and Shimano are both notorious for that, my Curado D's are one series back and no parts are available.

How does the casting & line management of CI4 compare to the Daiwas?

Even though my Stradic FH is super smooth, I always pick my Exceler or Tierra over it because they give me the extra distance to reach a specific piece of cover that is a few yards out of reach when using the FH.

If the CI4 compares in that aspect I might go back to Shimano spinning reels :D

I think yours is on of the only comments here that references the Coastal.  Cheers!

What makes the Stella so incomparable? I'm curious.

Buy one  , fish it ,then you'll understand.

The Coastal is the same as a Tierra but with a CRBB.   Honestly the CI4 does cast farther than any spinning reel I've ever had.  But with light braid any spinning reel casts farther than most people can throw accurately anyway.

Thanks, good to know about the Coastal.

Next time I'm looking at spinning reels, I'll have to keep the Stradic CI4 in mind.  A CI4 / Cumara combo sounds pretty sweet :D

Of course, I'd also be fine with a Sol on a Fuego rod :)

The comparison of the CI4 to the Stella was

in terms of feel and initial performance. Many

features that previously were only available on

the Stella have been incorporated into the new

Stradic.

Rest assured I will not be replacing my Stellas

anytime soon, but the CI4 seems like a great

reel.  Shimano continues to build on the solid

reputation of the Stradic line. This would be my

recommendation for spinning reel under $200.

I'm also in the camp that a Ci4 doesn't hold a candle to a Stella FD.  Nor should it to be fair.  I think the Ci4 is a fantastic reel at its price point, but I've fished both models and there is no way the Ci4 even comes close in my hands.

The Sol is a solid performer as well.  I like the look and lighter frame of the Ci4, but the Sol feels a bit smoother to me.

I think I might have to go with the sol on my legend tournament, the ci4 would look hideous on that rod, but I could get both and put the ci4 on my sr782, that would be one super light combo.  I know it is probably a toss up when it comes to performance and they are both about the same price, but if you spend $200+ on a reel it better look good on the rod you put it on.

The old Fuego, all red, was a beautiful reel.  The Sol?  Orande body/frame and a grey rotor?  Yuck.   Still why get a reel that is ordained to be cancelled after the end of this model year.

Posted

Just b/c the reel is being phased out doesn't mean it has no value anymore, the 50mg is still one of the greatest reels ever made and they are no longer in production.

A red fuego on a legend tournament?  The LT is blue with yellowish/orandish accents, a Sol would look like it was made for it.

True it still has value, but why buy it new knowing availability of parts is minimal.  Especially if a newly introduced model at the same $ will have parts available for more years ahead.

I don't see a problem with it, but if I were to get one I would wait until they are on clearance. Why get one now for 200 when they're about to be quite a bit less within this next year?

my thoughts exactly, I think I will go with the ci4 now and get the sol when they clearance.  Especially since I found a ci4 on ebay for $175 shipped and all the sols I have found have been close to $200
