Revo SX vs. BPS Pro Qualifier

I am looking into buying a new reel and rod for flippin and pitchin, and I am sort of on a budget. I own the Revo Winch, STX, and SX and am very happy with all 3. Can someone please compare the Pro Qualifier to the SX (if you are able to) or what you liked or disliked about the Pro Qualifier reel? Is it worth saving the extra money and going with the ProQualifier combo instead of buying the SX and a nice rod. I would be saving around $100 give or take if I went with the BPS combo. Thanks for your help.

First, I'm not a Revo user so I can't personally compare. There is one board member that has a number of Revo SXs and is now buying PQs so perhaps he will come along with his personal experience.

If you haven't yet, search and you will find a bunch of threads related to the PQ in general.

I have 4 PQs with another planned. I'm all about value and when you look at the specs - aluminum frame, 6-bearings, dual-braking, etc. - IMO it is the best value in it's price class at the regular $100 price, and is a GREAT value when on sale for $80. Except for other BPS reels and the Browning Midas reel, you have to get up to the $200 price point to get dual-braking on other reels (Pflueger Patriarch and the new Revo STX)

On the Pro-Qualifier rod - there are also some threads on that but I acknowledge that there are a lot of other good rods out there as well...

I absolutely love by pro qualifier. Might pick another up this year when they go on sale. No problems with it. It casts very nicely and fits my hand very well

I am Revo SX kind of guy, no complaints super smooth, I have only handled BP ProQ's at BassPro they seem on Par with the SX, but no actually water time with them. I guess it is about what you prefer. I like the look of the Revo SX also, the 2010 version at least.

Don't think of it only as a matter of price but also in terms of value.  If you are happy with the Revos you currently own, why change?  I'm not Kreskin but I would feel comfortable in my prediction that Revos will not only maintain value but will also last longer.

I am confident that the PQ uses quality components and will compare well with the Revo. I have a couple and will pick up a couple more before spring if I can find the cash. Lets talk again in a year or two.

Save yourself some money and get the PQ. I couldn't be happier with the one I have. I did get a chance to get a couple casts in with the pre2010 sx and for the money the PQ is a better value. If you have the extra money and like your revos already go for the sx. If not, you won't be sacrificing any performance by going with the PQ.

Apologies to the OP for going OT but I wish I had bought a few more ProLites before they were discontinued. I fished my 2009 model yesterday, it palms great, is 2 oz lighter than the PQ, and casts as far. I turned off all the centrifigul brakes, had magnetic on 3, and loosened up the spool tension and was getting great distance out of that little reel. Guess I will just have to settle for the new Carbonlite which is just as light as the ProLite, but is bigger - same size as the PQ...

Based on Cart7t's earlier posts, there seem to be many common aspects between the new Revo, Patriarch & BPS reels.  One feature that I am curious about is the weight & capacity of the spools.  I wonder if the premium priced reels actually have lighter spools that may improve performance over the value priced reels.  Also, I like concept the lower capacity of the PQ vs. the Revo since it should reduce weight and use less line over a season

I'll be 1,000% honest here.

It doesn't much matter really. You get the aluminum crank side plate with the Revo. I like the metal construction myself.

You get a MUCH nicer handle, and dual brakes that work great on the PQ.

Internally the reels are the same.

I have bought and worked on several BPS reels.

Of them, you absolutely can NOT go wrong with the PQ. Parts will be available YEARS down the road. You will just buy parts for a Revo.

With that said, I've been slowly converting my reels over to Abu Revo's. It's a brand I've been attached to for years. I learned to fish with a baitcaster using a 5500c3. I've used them for years and because of that have developed some brand loyalty.

So I guess I personally prefer the Revo's, but the PQ is a better value, and performs great. Really nice reels.

I currently own 2 SX,s and in my opinion they are the cats meow. I bought a PQ at Christmas and have thrown it in the yard and I really like this real. I shut all of the centrifigal brakes off and that baby will cast a country mile. For the price(got mine for 79) you cant beat it. I plan on buying 3 more at the spring classic. My only concern is how well will they hold up? Only time will tell.  I bought the new extreme a year ago at the classic and I am not to crazy about it. You can have it dialed in and on the 14th cast you will get one heck of a backlash for no reason. I had read this same thing on a forum before I bought it,they were right. I still want to pick up an Exceler from Daiwa soon, it feels like a dandy also. Gander Mtn had them for 59 today but they were all LH dang it. Hope this helps.

The main problems with the JM Sig are the size and weight. The ones I've handled are really smooth and I'm sure they'll cast and retrieve just fine, but they are substantially larger and slightly heavier than the PQ. They just don't seem to fit the hand (my hand, anyway) as well as the PQ.

I am going to get a PQ for medium and deep crankin'. Should I get a 4.7:1 or the 5.2:1?

It will be for a MH 7' cranking rod and crankbaits like the Norman DD22, Fat Free Shad BD7, Strike King Series 5 and 6, etc.
