zelmo Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Has anyone seen or used the new accurist? They have brought it back at a lower price point, but you can still get the older models NIB for $50 to $60. Catching the new one on sale you are looking at $80. Specs say it is lighter; did they cut corners anyplace, or just got more realistic with the pricing? Quote
zelmo Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 I still have not been able to handle one. Anybody? Quote
Boogey Man Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Haven't handled the new Accurist but I do have a Catalyst that I really like. The Accurist looks pretty similar but still has the flipping switch. Check them out at www.quantumfishing.com if you haven't already. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I did look at one. It has one more bearing than the AC500PT's I have now. I picked them up for forty two bucks a piece well over two years ago. I like the older version a lot. They have the PT grade bearings and have held up exceptionally well. The weight is negligible. zelmo Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 ghost - I saw your post in the Catalyst thread that you had one of these. Rather than hijack that thread I bumped this up. Quote
ghost Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 You caught my attention Brotha! I do have the 2010 Accurist is left hand in the 7.1:1 burner. Comparing it to last years model, the 2010 is lower in profile, it's not as tall as the previous which really bugged me. It looks very similar to the newer Quantums from last year, like the orange Catalyst, Energy. It's just an ounce heavier than said reels but I would think it's due to the flipping switch. The weird thing about the Accurist compared Catalyst and Tour that I have. The spool when the drag and star drag are loosened up, it feels tight. I thought I had a defective one so I had Cabelas send me another & that one does it too. Also the drag, it doesn't state how strong the drag is like the other Quantums, I have to really torque the drag down to keep the spool from turning. The other 2 Quantums don't do that. So I guess that's the difference in price for the quality? I've used the Accurist and it casts real well, not quite in par w/ the latest Shimano Citica but not bad. The Tour Energy I have that thing is butta' & casts crazy far. The new Accurist has the braking system like on the Tour Energy & Catalyst, I don't have to click more than the first one to get good casting. But the Quantums of now compared to the Shimano Curado & Citica, the Quantums are narrower in width & just a tad taller than the Shimanos. But weight wise they are right in the same ballpark. I like my Curado & Citica I just sometimes don't like how wide the are. Reminds me of the Daiwa Advantage HSTLA, that thing felt wide. So I hope I've been helpful about the Accurist. I sometimes go OCD & give TMI & I would think I am not b.s.'ing, but I just LOL at myself or ROTFLOL. ;D Quote
zelmo Posted January 30, 2010 Author Posted January 30, 2010 Thanks, that does help. I am looking for a reel to put on a 7'6" MH flipping rod, but I will probably throw ribbit type baits with it most often. The Accurist is different than the other reels I have so it is on my list. Any idea how it compares to the BPS Pro Qualifier? Quote
