nralover Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Guys, I'd like to build a three rig casting arsenal for bass. I realize that some folks have a rod for every concievable situation, but I don't have the means to do that. I use a St. Croix spinning rod for my senkos, shakey heads, and the like. I currently own a Revo STX and a Shimano Citica and I will probably buy another Citica to round out my reels. What is the best way to cover most of the common techniques with three rods? I realize that a crankbait rod is probably a must, but please weigh in and give me some direction. I'd like to build the most versatile setups that I can. I'll take all the details and advice I can get.... Thanks, NRA Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 I would go with a 7'M for trebles (shallow-mid cranks, jerkbaits, and topwater), 7'MH for spinnerbaits, jigs, and t-rigs, and then a 7'-7'6''H for larger jigs, heavier cover, and carolina rig. Quote

Either of those will do for spinners, the med rod would probably be better for topwater. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 27, 2010 Super User Posted January 27, 2010 Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts". Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures) 8-) Quote

Just kidding:) It is a relief that I can pull it all off with three casting rods, cuz that is all I can afford... Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 a well rounded rod in my eyes is a MHF action, a very good rod also can be an XF tip, the XF is a great for spinnerbaits, and will double as a top water rod if you cant swing the cash for every application. Look into the Loomis Spinnerbait rod, they can be found here and on the bay for a decent price. Also there's a fellow member "bcody" selling a G.Loomis Mossyback rod in here, worth a look. Its a great rod that will fit in well with some the techniques your looking for. It be on its way to my house but I have a couple XF tips and need a new froggin rod. Take a look. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1264477115 Quote

SimonDM17 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 7'MH mod-fast, braid + leader==spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, buzzbaits. 7' MH fast or x-fast=pitching, jigs, c-rigs, t-rigs And then there's another rod to play with, maybe a flipping stick/frog rod, maybe a swimbait stick, maybe a 7'M for jerkbaits?
