fish-fighting-illini Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Would like some opinions on the best reels you can buy for this price new no offense but this has been asked and answered tons of times. I know the search tool here leaves something to be desired by try it. I'd say you could come up with that same question 10-20 times in the last 2 years Quote
cmatthews6485 Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 i know that fishfighting but i asked mainly because i wanted members that i know to put there opinions in as well Quote

I know the search tool here leaves something to be desired by try it. I'd say you could come up with that same question 10-20 times in the last 2 years I think it's a good question. Things change, the reel I love today might end up on the swap and sell board tomorrow. I could not give you a review on a Stradic 2500 FI six months ago and now I have two of them and love them. As our collection of "stuff" changes so does our opinion of our "stuff" change. So here are my choices: Daiwa Tierra (spinning) and the Shimano Citica (baitcaster). Quote

As an analyst by trade I never have enough information When trying to gain subjective information, it helps to ask similar questions, but in a different manner to help "read between the lines." Sometimes interpolating from various opinions helps to form opinions where no specific information is found. I'm guilty of frequently "beating a dead horse" :) Quote
LAO162 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Spinning reel suggestion: These are my go to reels - Daiwa Exceler MSRP $80, Daiwa Tierra MSRP $125. They have great casting distance and line management (few tangles). I'd also consider the Cabela's Tournament ZX & Prodigy by Daiwa when they are on sale (30% off). I'll leave the baitcasting suggestions to the BC experts. However, I will say that moving to a high quality baitcasting reel made the biggest difference for me. The most I ever spent on a piece of gear was my Chronarch 51mg, and it was money well spent. Leon Quote
JigMe Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I would go with the Shimano Citica. It is built off the frame as the Curada, and much less expensive. I have used both reels, Curada offers a smoother retrieve and it is better casting of light lures. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 25, 2010 Super User Posted January 25, 2010 Everything I own is in that range or less. : I recommend for casting the BassPro Pro Qualifier. Very nice reel for the money. For spinning the Pflueger president at $60 is my choice. The Pflueger Supreme ($99) is also a fine reel. Just my .02 Good luck. Quote
zero limit Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I also recomend the plfueger president for $60 on this flea market i got a citica sent it to the reel mech for service and cleaning total cost $77 Quote
zero limit Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I know you said new but thertes a citica in the flea market for $75 Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 25, 2010 Super User Posted January 25, 2010 All the major companies have great reels in the 100.00 price range. You are not going to get burned on any reels in that price range. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 25, 2010 Super User Posted January 25, 2010 For the BC reel - another vote for the BPS ProQualifier - dual braking and 4 available gear ratios - hopefully, it will be reduced to about $80 during the BPS Spring Classic starting at the end of February. For the spinning reel - I'll pass to the other posters. I still fish a '60s Mitchell 408 and have about 10 mid-'80s Shakespeare Sigma 2200s that suit my needs just fine Quote
Carrington Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 for spinning i would say a shimano sehara they are like $70 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 26, 2010 Super User Posted January 26, 2010 this is a no brainer imho. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&id=0043073121539a&navCount=1&podId=0043073&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true pflueger supreme spinning.a real value and lighter than any reel in it's class. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20331&id=0011735116476a&navCount=5&podId=0011735&parentId=cat20331&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true trion narrow spool.it's a workhorse and will outcast most others. Craiger12 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 The Shimano Saros F is an excellent spinning reel, incredibly smooth and solid. It can be had for ~$100 NIB on Ebay. I also have the current model Sahara, and while an excellent budget reel, I don't think it compares to the Saros. The Sahara is not nearly as smooth and does not feel as connected as the Saros (the Saros has the direct drive handle while the Sahara does not). I say spend the extra ~$30 and go for the Saros. Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 26, 2010 Super User Posted January 26, 2010 For a hundred nothing comes close the Pflueger supreme. I have 3 and bought them all for around 80.00 Quote
The Bassinator Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 i found the pflueger president baitcaster for $99.99 and it casts great http://www.overstockbait.com/Pflueger_President_WLPL_p/pfl-presidentwlpl.htm Quote
