for $100 or less, I'd go with Bass Pro reels, either an Extreme, the Rick Clunn that is on sale, or the Pro Qualifier

X2

BPS ProQualifier - was just on sale for $80 for a month but is now back at the regular $100 price. BPS Rick Clunn - now on sale at $71 - but almost sold out.

Both are fine reels. The RC will sell out soon; hopefully the PQ will be reduced again to $80 during the BPS Spring sale.

I'd look in the Flea Market for a Citica E... they pop up for $100 or less from time to time.  They are an outstanding reel at that price point!!

Charter member of the Shimano Posse 8-)

Daiwa was a close second, but is loosing ground.

Many moons ago, Quantum made my Blackball List.

I'm sure they're better today, but that's too little, too late.

I'm with him^^^

Quantum screwed it up. Daiwa was starting to screw it up.

But for the price get the rick clunn that's on clearance at Bass Pro. I own a Citica as well as the Rick Clunn. I would go as far as to say the Rick Clunn should be priced up there with the Citica. It is a great reel. They're running out though. All they have left is the 7.1 right handed and 6.4 left handed. I already own the 6.4 righty, and about an hour ago I ordered the 7.1. My lady is gonna be mad. Lol. But just yesterday they had them all. Now they're gone (She'll understand that right?). I hope I made it in time. :) you should too. The new one is stil just as good. Only difference is the color and about 40 bucks. I will still pay that if I don't get one before they run out of the blue one.

You should be able to find a Citica on Ebay for $100.  The Daiwa Exceler is a decent $80 reel, I like the Citica better but the Exceler has performed well.

I like the shimano's best but the diawa's are close second.

For less expensive reels I am pretty fond of BPS reels.  I got my daughter a Prolite Finesse reel when they were on sale/clearance last year and I am really impressed with it.  I just got a 5.2-1 Pro Qualifier for a cranking reel and can cast a Strike King Series 3 (1/4oz) way further than I did with my Revo Winch.

Under $100 get a Pro Qualifier.  I spend the $19 extra bucks and get the Johnny Morris Signature Series reel everytime.  It is THE BOMB!  It looks like Pflueger and BPS reels are the same.  They have the exact same backlash controls just that the BPS reels are WAY cheeper.

You can keep your Shimanos and Diawas.
