wisconsin heat Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 i need a cheap cranking reel to pair with a skeet reese tessera cranking rod. im looking for reels with a max of $120. i have looked at the extreme series by bass pro shops and am curious if they are worth $80. so if u have any suggestions that would be great. ;D Quote
simplejoe Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 The Shimano Citica is a great reel and it's right at your price range. Quote
SkeeterZX225 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I traded for a BPS extreme reel a while back and gave it to my father. Those things cast extremely well and fit perfect in my/his hand. He used it quite a bit this past fall throwing crankbaits and loves it. I think they're well worth the $80 Quote

SWMIBASSER Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Extreme, Pro Qualifier, and David Fritts crankin' reel are all under your budget. Not sure if BPS still sells the Fritts reels or not though. They cast a MILE, and have plenty of power, nice long handle, etc. I just don't care for how they fit in my hand. They are a little larger diameter than I liked. You could also pick up a revo S on e-bay, and swap a 5.4 gear set into it and probably still come in under your budget. The funny thing is, the most success by FAR I've had cranking was with an older Quantum Iron round reel. Makes me wonder if Fritts is onto something in liking the pawl anti reverse. Or it just had the right speed....Something. I'd sell that to you for cheap too if you want it. Quote
bassman36 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I love the fritts Cranking reel. it fits perfect in my hand and can cast any size crank a country mile. And it also looks d**n good on my crankin carrot stick. It just sucks BPS doesnt sell them anymore. Quote
BrASSmonkey Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 The New Pro Qualifiers come in thw low gear ratios for deep cranking. They are also really smooth and cast well. Good reels for the money. BM Quote
swampz Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 or a pflueger trion 5.1 reel 100$ and it cast a mile and hasnt failed once in 4 years that ive had it Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 15, 2010 Super User Posted January 15, 2010 There is a Curado E5 in the Flea Market for $125...great reel at a great price. Quote
ToledoEF Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 There is a Curado E5 in the Flea Market for $125...great reel at a great price. Yes there is! Somebody should jump on that! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I would recommend the Pflueger Trion too. I love these things and for $100 you cant beat it. Yeah, the Citica is probably a good fit too, but the Trion will out cast it and will reel smoother also. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Abu Garcia Revo S, BPS Pro Qualifier or Extreme, are just what you're looking for.. try and get something with a 5:1 Gear ratio... 6:4:1 works fine also Quote
