Boogey Man Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I'm looking for either a 1000 or 2500 size Symetre or Sahara. It will be going on a 6'6" med. ex. fast Compre and will be used mostly for shakey heads and wacky rigs. I will be spooling it with 8lb test. I haven't had a chance to check out either in the store yet but was hoping to get some input here first. Thanks. Quote
LAO162 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 The first two points that jump out at me: - 1000 size will be lighter - 2500 size will have wider spool that should help with line management (i.e. less tangles & better casting) Leon Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 2500 IMHO is the perfect size for bass fishing Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 Wouldn't buy either one. I'm using supremes 8725 & 8730, both hold more than enough line for bass, plenty of horsepower and what I like the best is not a dinky handle, but a larger more comfortable one, plenty smooth and very light. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 2500 IMHO is the perfect size for bass fishing Although I generally agree...the 1000 series seems to be a better fit for shorter rods. I only have one (Stella 1000FA) and it's matched up with an Avid AVS66MLF. This rig is sweet! 8-) Quote
NewAngler Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I have a 2500 Shimano and a 103 Cardinal. For bass I use the 2500, panfish the 103.. I think the 2500 would be a better fit for the rod you are going to put it on. If you were going to go with a ML rod or smaller I would go with the 100 Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 I would go with the 2500 with that rod. Quote
Ern Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I use a 1000 on an 5' UL st croix. I use a 1000 on a 6' L. Looking at a 3000 for a 7' Med. I use a 4000 on a 7' Med Hvy. I am thining on selling a 2000 and a 750 symetre as I like the above better. The 2500 and 3000 are same size but the 3000 has a bit more Line capacity (deeper spool) and better handle. The 1000 FJ and 750FI are about the same size. I have put a 750 FI spool on a 1000FJ. 1000 FJ has faster gearing. I use it for small stream smallmouth or trout. 2000 is a great reel but heavier than the 1000FJ. Ern 1 Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 2500 is the perfect bass fishing reel! Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 I have the 2500 Sharha on a 6'6" MF..6 lb yoZuri ultrasoft. I use it for most plastic's i.e. DS, T ridg, C rig ect...I think the 2500 is the way to go. Quote
OIFBasser Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I have that same rod, with a Symetre 2500FJ on it, and it is a great combo. I spooled 6lb. PLine CX on it. It balances great, and doubles as a Walleye rod too. I do have a 1000 size reel that I use for Steelhead/Panfish with 4lb. PLine on it, and it works for 25 in. Steelhead, and 2lb. Crappie. Quote
Sherlock 60 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I have three Symetre reels: a 1000 on a 5 1/2' ultra light; a 2500 on a 6 1/2' medium; and a 4000 on a 6 1/2' medium heavy rod (but I should have bought a 7'er). I would suggest you go with the 2500 for that rod. Quote
midnighthrasher Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I have a 2500 sustain on a 6'8 cumara M-fast and its awesome. Perfect size. Quote
Boogey Man Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 Thanks for all the input so far. I had kind of guessed the 2500 size would be best but I wanted to get a little head start before I actually went to a tackle shop and checked them out. Quote
SoCalRob Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Spooling 8 lb. line on a 1000 sized reel is a bad idea. for 8 lb. test the 2500 is your best bet. Quote
