BadBass94 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 I am new to baitcast reels and would like to buy one and try. Now, i am not looking to buy a real cheap piece of junk that will have to be replaced. Trust me, i am determined to get a nice reel for around 50 bucks and i will keep with and practice. Anybody have any experiecce with a nice durable reel that would break my pocket? Thanks in advance. Quote
RussBert Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 check out this thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1262547369/11#11 $100 gets you a very good reel (Shimano Citia) from some ebay stores Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 9, 2010 Super User Posted January 9, 2010 you haveto spend at least $100.i suggest a pflueger trion narrow spool.it's the best value at that price. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 9, 2010 Super User Posted January 9, 2010 Daiwa Procaster 6+1 ( PR100/101 H ), for 70 bucks you get a very nice reel. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 10, 2010 Super User Posted January 10, 2010 $50 is a tough price-point to get a good, long-lasting reel. Some folks will come along soon and recommend getting a Garcia Ambassadeur round-reel on eBay. For a new reel, to go over your budget a bit, BPS has the Rick Clunn reel on clearance right now for $71.82 - this reel has dual-braking, making learning to use a baitcaster quite a bit easier. Quote
Guest beowulfx71 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Go to ebay, look for an orange Daiwa Capricorn XTC, it is an all metal reel you can buy for around $50-it is basically the best of the old Daiwa Procaster series. Quote
d.hark Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 your search is over!! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1262810359 Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 look in the flea market... some BPS extreme reels usually pop up used for around 40 bucks are so... they are nice reels for the money Quote
Nkybassfisherman Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 go to the spring fishing sale at bass pro and get a bass pro tournament series reel. i was really scared about getting one for 40 dollars but wow best buy for 40 bucks by far.. its got 10 bearings so its super smooth. Quote
0119 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Im surprise nobody suggested the 4600C3 Abu. A basic, workhorse reel that will last forever. Quote

SWMIBASSER Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Without a doubt, your best bet is to buy used. If you do buy new, your going to be looking for a BPS reel, that is on clearance. I wouldn't go lower than there Extreme. But they can go on sale cheap when a new model comes out (no new models this year) Or buy a used 4600 c3 or c4, used Revo S, used BPS reel, or used Daiwa. I know a few folks who have used the Daiwa Megaforce or whatever it's called for a few years now with no problems. Quote
steezy Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 BPS Pro qualifer, I'll sell you one for $45 shipped to your door. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 BPS Pro qualifer, I'll sell you one for $45 shipped to your door. That is a fantastic deal. The PQ is great reel in my opinion. It has a dual brake control, and is a very smooth reel. I have two, and use them all the time. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted January 11, 2010 Super User Posted January 11, 2010 There are many good tips on here. But I would say a daiwa Megaforce for about $ 69.00, I bought one and it was very easy to use, nice and smooth reel.Or the Pflueger Echelon or the Cetina. These would be my picks. And you may find them cheaper if you do your home work. rodnreel11 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I agree with nova77x, the Daiwa Capricorn XTC reels are an amazing deal. They are often forgot about, but I've had one of these reels for a long time and never had a single problem with it. They are not the lightest reel around, but for the price they are great. Lube and grease a couple times a year and they will last forever. Quote

rubba bubba Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Do you want a left or right-handed reel? I only ask as that may impact your buy-used options. However, buying used is the way to go and if Steezy's reel is the hand you want, you need to jump on it. Quote
