21farms Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 variety is the spice of life...go for it! i have shimanos, daiwas, ABUs, pfluegers, BPSs and quantums and i have found that most modern reels are good performers. note: the fuego doesn't like light lures as much as the curado Es and STX but is fine for anything 1/4 oz and up. i have mine on my g.loomis SBR813c spinnerbait rod and love it for that. for a jig and worm setup, i prefer the fastest reel i can get, say in the 7:1 range. bigtimfish Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I have a fuego and I can cast a strike king zero on it a long long way. I bought it exclusivly for light lures ikas,flukes,senkos. I am sure it will give you no trouble with weighted anything. very very good reel for $131. I am glad I pulled the trigger on buying one. Quote

repper Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 do a search of this site and you will find that the general consensus is that the Fuego, with it's heavy spool, is best suited for something over 1/4oz. i own one, and i agree with the consensus. Quote

A 5" Senko weighs as much as 7" Power Worm, 3/0 hook, and 1/8 oz bullet weight (according to my little digital scale) and I believe the others weigh about the same, if not more. Quote
21farms Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 spruce, yes, i do own a fuego. i also own a sol, a few zillions, a few curado Es, a few revos and some other reels. i happen to like the fuego very much but, in my experience, my curado Es and my revos (the reels the OP also mentioned) cast light lures farther and handled lighter line better...i did not say that it couldn't. It will be perfect for the OP. The Sol has Magforce-V, and very light spool, and is ideally suited for light weight presentations. Both reels have robust drag systems, and are strong, powerful reels that handle heavy cover. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 6, 2010 Super User Posted January 6, 2010 The Posse can object all they want....the E won't cast as well as a Fuego, out of the box. the E is relatively heavy compared to the Fuego as well. The two aren't really on equal footing anyway, one was initially a $230-250 reel, the other in the sub $200 range. Quote

It's all marketing. If it's better than the Curado, and yet less $$, you can NOT go wrong in getting it. Quote
21farms Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 wondering why its been discontinued? it seems both shimano and daiwa are moving away from magnesium for their reels. mg is susceptible to saltwater corrosion and is probably just too expensive. daiwa's original fuego spinning reel (a superb reel, btw) was made of magnesium but the second-generation fuego-A spinning reel uses daiwa's new proprietary zaion material. shimano, likewise, has come up with Ci4.
