MtCarmelTriton20x Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I personally use the crucial m for my small cranks with a zillion 4.9 speed reel. It is great for shallow to medium cranks but not really enough stick for the deep stuff. Now by the same token I have a mh with a daiwa Luna to throw deep cranks that is great for deep cranks and ok on mediums but if you get one that stiff to throw shallow cranks on you will feel nothing on the retrieve. There is just not enough action. I guess what I am saying is the Shimano Crucial is my favorite rod but if you throw med and shallow most of the time I would highly recomend the m rod you will be glad you did. JMHO Quote
Stasher1 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I throw my shallow and lipless cranks on a Kistler Magnesium TS 'Alton Jones Crankbait Special" composite rod (MgAJCBSGGM70) It's fairly light and much more sensitive than I had expected when I ordered it. It's a medium with a mod-fast action and a fairly soft tip, so it'll toss a 1/4 oz crank quite a ways, as long as your reel is capable of doing so. It's definitely not the best choice for deep cranks, though. Quote
Simp Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I have the 7ft MH mojo cranking rod and it's very different from a normal MH. I use it for deep cranks all the time and actually wish at times it was a little bit stiffer. It's a great rod though and can throw light cranks to heavy. St Croix also makes some nice glass cranking rods in the premiere line. Quote
jamarkwe Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Yeah, I'm not to worried about throwing deep cranks as much as I originally thought I would. I'm gonna stick to 10' and shallower this year. You guys are giving some great versatile information on this topic. I appreciate it very much. Quote
