In that price range I'd definantly look into the powell rods. I dont have one but everyone that has it says great things about it. Or you can look for used rods.

I have to order most of my rods online, but I would suggest you wait and try it on rods. I've got my Fuego on a Shimano Compre I got a while before this sale. The rod is excellent for the price point. I wish I could have gotten another one of these reels, but I couldn't.

By the way did you see that they had free overnight shipping?

Really, I bought a rod for my Uncle and it gave me free overnight shipping, but it didn't remind me either, I just selected it because it said on the site orders over 100 dollars free overnight shipping until Dec. 31. But, I did order it a bit before X-mas, so who knows. :D

Most people say that the Fuego is better suited to heavier baits. So I would team it with a little heavier power rod.

You can't beat a 7' MH F or XF rod. The most versatile BC rod you can get IMO.

the Fuego will toss a 4" fluke weightless no problem. if theres not much wind it will handle a #5 shad rap as well. the rod will decide in the end what the reel will and wont toss.

i have a Fuego mounted on a Cabelas Tourney Trail 7' rod. the rod is rated MF MH. i use this set up for lipless cranks, shallow/medium cranks, topwater, flukes, spinnerbaits and if i have too weightless plastics. its a great combo for flukes as well.

this is my favorite bank rod/reel.

I've got a Fuego and the Premier rod you're asking about. I haven't used them as a combo, but my opinion is the Fuego casts better with a softer rod. The medium Premier is more like a medium-heavy. I use it for single hook lures like T-rigs, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits but would not recommend it for cranks or jerkbaits.
